Keith McAlmond

Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29th at St. Johns Lutheran Church on Helena Avenue.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Keith McAlmond passed away on April 24th, 2010.

He was born on October 18th, 1928 in Minot, North Dakota the youngest child of Lewis Emery and Blanche Ferris McAlmond. Keith grew up on the family farm on McAlmond Township, North Dakota. He moved to Sacramento, California when he was 12 but returned six years later to his North Dakota home. There, Keith met a red haired beauty named Eunice Aker and married her in 1947. Keith and Eunice lived and worked on a ranch outside Columbus, MT before moving to Billings in the early 50s where Keith began posting billboards for Foote Outdoor Advertising and later moved to Helena where he continued that occupation with Myhre Outdoor Advertising. Together Keith and Eunice had 11 children, many laughs and even a square dance or two. Mom passed away in 1972. In 1975, Myhre Advertising recognized Keiths gift for making folks smile and asked him to consider a position in sales. He was hesitant but decided to give it a shot. Myhre never regretted the decision. During his life, Keith was a jockey, a bartender, fenced with his buddy Jack Ballard, and, by example, taught his children love, laughter and courage.Keith made a trip to Hawaii in 1980 and met yet another beautiful Norwegian, Mary Syvertson Wittmayer, and eventually brought her home to Montana. Even after meeting all of his children, she decided to stay. They are truly thankful that she did.Keith enjoyed golfing, traveling and hunting. He considered himself a cattle baron as he raised four calves annually at his home west of Helena which he and Mary lovingly referred to as El Rancho Costa Plente. Keith particularly enjoyed time with his children since he considered one of his greatest pleasures in life was getting to grow up with them.Keith thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and as he often reminded their parents, if he would have known how much fun grandchildren were, he would have had them first.

Keith was preceded in death by his first wife Eunice, infant daughter Carol, daughter Lana and son Brian as well as his parents and his sisters, Helen, Harriet and Heloise (Jean), and his brothers Howard, Harold, Harris, and Harlow (Mickey).

Keith is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary and his sons Monte (Diane), Rod, Rick (Barbara), Bill (Allee), Mark (Krista) and his daughters Judy Spieker (Joe), Monica Thompson (Jack) and Barbara McAlmond (Todd Bingham), as well as 20 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 more great-grandchildren expected in July and September and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and countless dear friends. He is also survived by a son-in-law Darrell (Lana) Baum of Winston, and a daughter-in-law Glennda (Brian) McAlmond of Helena, sisters-in-law, Mary (Harold) McAlmond of Chandler, AZ, Jordice Leaver, Betty Aker, Darlene Hoon, Sue Aker, Barb Aker, all of South Dakota as well as Marys children in North Dakota, Mitch (Jan) Wittmayer, Scott (Angie) Wittmayer and Tammy (Steve) Brunelle and 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and Marys siblings and their spouses, Geri (Noel) Hanson, Betty (Laverne) Tweten, Bob (Darlene) Syvertson, all of North Dakota and Dale (Rita) Syvertson of Florida.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home.

We could write volumes about our husband, dad and grandfather, but suffice it to say he was a great man who was dearly loved. Our hearts are truly aching, Dad, but as you would say, We get over this one; well go on a good one!
