Kelly F. Radue of Miles City passed away in Billings, MT on June 22, 2018, he was 77. Kelly
was born on July 25,1940 to Frederick and Doris Radue in Green Bay, WI. He was raised in Green Bay and was the eldest of three children.
After graduation from the University of WI with a BS in Political Science, he met and married Cynthia Hersum in 1966 in Madison, WI. He began a career with the Social Security Administration as a Field Representative in the Green Bay area. His career of 25 years took him from Indiana, to Appleton, WI, to Billings, MT, and lastly Miles City, MT. He continued to work in the Miles City office and southeastern region of MT until his retirement in 1991. Upon retirement, Kelly and Cindy purchased a small ranch on the Tongue River. Kelly spent the remainder of his days enjoying the ranch, his favorite place. He also loved spending the summers at their cabin on Lake Superior. He especially enjoyed visiting friends and family at both locations.
While living in Kinsey and on the Tongue River, Kelly enjoyed animals and the outdoors. He became involved with the Tongue River Pheasants Forever chapter and Northern Plains Resource Council advocating for conservation. Kelly was involved in Kiwanis when his children were young and assisted with 4-H activities for years. He was a lifetime-member of the NRA and was involved with the Rod and Gun Club.
Kelly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially with good food. He loved cooking, gunsmithing, target shooting, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending summers in MI. He was an avid reader and loved history. He was a self-taught guitarist who could play by ear. Kelly and Cindy had golden retrievers, raising and training them for hunting for a time. He enjoyed bird hunting as well as just sharing his time with his dogs. He will be greatly missed by his dog Yogi. He and Cindy traveled seeing Alaska, the islands of England, Ireland, and Scotland, and the polar bears in Churchill, MB. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badgers fan. He was a positive influence, loved everyone and thought the best of others, was always willing to assist those in need of help or advice, was considerate and respectful, and loved to laugh. His family adored him and would call him, “Dad,” “Big Kel” as he was a “gentle giant,” or “Q tip” as he had fluffy white hair.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Sheila Radue. Kelly is survived by his wife Cindy of 52 years, his children Mark (Misty) Radue, Michelle Radue, Andrea (Scott) Johnson, and Felicia (Pete) Todoroff, twenty-one grandchildren, his sister Kathie VanDonsel and brother Steve Radue, as well as many nieces and nephews.

I am so sad to hear of Kelly’s passing. I had the privilege to work with him for some years through his involvement and leadership with Northern Plains Resource Council. Kelly was such an incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful man. From the first beer we grabbed together at the Montana Bar in Miles City, he always made me feel welcome and appreciated. I’m glad I got the chance to know him. He was a great asset to his community, his friends, and to Montana landowner, sportsmen, and conservation causes.

I’m saddened by this news. Kelly was a good man who fought the good fights without losing his sense of humor. Like the conservationist he was, he leaves us better than he found us.

Kelly and Cindy and I came to Appleton WI at the same time. We became very good friends and saw life transitions, wonderful and sad, over the many years we have known each other. The loss of Kelly is heartbreaking. He was a great storyteller, 12 string guitarist, activist, and photographer among other things. His dream was to live in the West. He and his family got to do that. Kelly and the other Montana Radues have made their mark there. But, Kelly and Cindy always maintained their contact with WI and the UP. We will sorely miss Kelly’s presence from our gettogethers. Love to all the family. Lori and Arlen
