Kenneth Wayne Johnson, age 86 of Miles City, Montana, formerly of Deer Lodge,Montana, passed away on April 10, 2005 at the Friendship Villa in Miles City.
Kenny was born on November 16, 1918 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, the son of Frank and Ruby (Higley) Johnson. At a young age, he moved with his family to the Excelsior Township in the Lake Park, Milford and Spirit Lake area of Iowa. As a young man, Kenny began working on ranches and farms in Iowa and Minnesota. Kenny married Jean Winter in Iowa. To this union, three girls were born. They then moved to Missoula, Montana, where Kenny began working in the Logging and lumber business. He enjoyed prospecting for gold as a hobby but eventually moved to Deer Lodge, Montana and made it his lifelong career. Kenny would work in the mountains during the summer months and when the snow started to fall, would stay at his cabin in Deer Lodge. Due to ill health, Kenny moved to Miles City in 2001 staying with his niece, Dawn Naatjes until moving into the Friendship Villa in 2002 where he has lived ever since.
Kenny loved the mountains and the outdoors and the simple way of life that came with living in the mountains. He also enjoyed tinkering on his Volkswagen bugs and would modify them so he was able to take them up the narrow mountain roads.
Kenny is survived by three daughters; Bonnie Bruner and her husband Bill, Linda Frederickson and her husband Bud, and Marilynn Colvert all of California, a son, Kenneth Wayne Jr. of Idaho, three grandchildren; Kasydi Frederickson and Christen and Kevin Bruner, six great grandchildren, a brother Lyle Johnson of Iowa, four sisters; Dorothy Sjostrum of Detroit Lakes, MN, Beulah Fliss of FL, Betty Carpenter of Omaha, NE, and Donna Mctigue of FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Harvey, Ronald, and Lyndale and by a grandson, Ky.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at a later date in the family lot in the Memory Garden Cemetery in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
