Memorial services for Kip Kipper B. Purinton, age 48, of Rawlins, Wyoming, son of a Gillette resident, Dale Purinton, will be Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. in Rawlins, Wyoming at the Rostad Funeral Home with Reverand Keith Purinton officiating. Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home of Gillette, Wyoming is entrusted with the arrangements.
Having lived a full and active life, despite battling multiple health problems since 1979, Kip died at his father's home September 14, 2003 on his 48th birthday.
Kip was born to Dale and Ann (Cardott) Purinton on September 14, 1955 in Lander, Wyoming. The family moved to Red Lodge, Montana in 1959, where Kip was raised and educated. He joined the Army in 1976 and was stationed in Hawaii. He graduated from Honolulu High School while in the service. In 1979, Kip got an honorable discharge due to his medical problems. He received his first kidney transplant in February 1982, and in 1983, he received his first hip replacement. After attending college in Rock Springs, Wyoming, Kip transferred to The University of Wyoming and earned his degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1991. In 1992, he went to work for the Bureau of Land Management, BLM, in Rawlins, Wyoming where he was employed until his death. Kip had his second kidney transplant in September 2000. His first bout with cancer began in May of 2002 and returned again in May of 2003.
Kips interests were riding horses, hunting, and spending time with his good
friends and family.
Kip is survived by his father, Dale Purinton of Gillette, Wyoming; his brother, Chad Purinton of Fairbanks, Alaska; his sister, Kari Purinton of Pheonix, Arizona; step brother, Tom Hileman of Wright, Wyoming; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kip was preceded in death by his mother Ann in 1982, and step mother Jeri Purinton in 2002.
Memorials in place of flowers may be sent to Friends of the Fisher House, a house for families to stay while their loved one's are fighting cancer at 1055 Clermont St. Denver CO, 80220, or the Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent via the internet to www.stevensonandsons.com.
