Kolbjorn Knutson, age 87, of Miles City left this world surrounded by his loving family due to complications from Guillain Barre Syndrome.
Kolbjorn was born on September 7, 1917 to Olaf and Gjerturde in Aurdal Oppland Norway. He was the oldest of 10 children. He immigrated to Fosterton, Canada with his mother, father and 4 siblings when he was 9 years old. On October 12, 1936 he married his sweetheart Lillian Simons in Swift Current Saskatchewan, Canada. They were blessed with 5 beautiful children. In 1949 they moved to Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada where he was manager and cattle buyer for the Co-op. In 1953 they moved to Rockglen, Saskatchewan where he owned and operated a meat shop with his brother. In 1962 they moved to Sidney, Montana where he worked at Valley Meat. In 1967 he moved to Miles City where he worked at Miles City Pack and then was the meat manager at Reynolds grocery store. He retired in 1979 at the age of 62. He spent his summers at Sechelt British Columbia fishing for salmon and checking his crab pots. His greatest love was his family and his faithful friend Buster. Fishing, hunting, and camping were his second love. For the last 10 years his passion was his greenhouse where he grew beautiful vegetables and flowers. He was very active and did not slow down.
He is survived by his wife Lillian, daughters Donaleen (Jacques)Choquer Sechelt British Columbia; Carole (Jeff) Gording, Casper Wyoming; Debra (Jeff) Piper, Pocatello, Idaho. Sons Wayne (Chris) Knutson, Crane Montana; Garth (Gayle) Knutson,Montivideo Minnesota. He has 13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
He was preceded by his mother and father; brothers: Barney, Gunnar, Ken, Glen and sister Gudren.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday December 11th, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. A reception will follow at the VFW. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com If desired, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
