Kurt W. Grimsrud passed away unexpectedly at his home in Miles City, MT on February 7th, 2024. Kurt was born in Wolf Point, MT to Larry E. Grimsrud and Sharon L. Sugden Grimsrud on March 5th, 1968. He was the 6th of 7 children. Kurt spent his early years growing up on the farm north of Wolf Point with his family. The family then moved to the river bottom west of Wolf Point to the log house his father built.
In 1982 Kurt, his younger sister Shay, and his parents moved to Haxby, MT. Kurt attended Cat Creek country school for 2 years and then resided in a dormitory in Jordan while attending high school. He worked on ranches in the Jordan area where he made lifelong friends.
His first job outside of ranching was in the state of Washington working for a painting and sandblasting company where he learned his trade and did very well. While there he met Cari Keesecker, and they had a son named Dalton. Kurt went on to work all over the country as far north as Alaska and as far south as Panama.
Kurt continued this work and excelled at his trade with Ostrom Paint and Sandblasting company in Illinois where he worked up and down the Mississippi River working on dams and levees. Kurt met and married Alison in Lacrosse, Wisconsin and they had a daughter Ruby named after his grandmother.
Kurt made his way back to Billings, MT. While there he and Kristen built the business Paint All Inc. They had two children, Cooper and Ivy. His four children were the loves of his life.
His last years were spent in Miles City working for Transco Railroad refinishing tanker cars for the railroad.
Kurt made friends everywhere he went and was known for being sociable, outgoing, and a hard worker. He was quick witted, humorous, and had a dose of sarcasm.
Kurt valued his family, and his biggest supporter was his mother. Kurt faced many health trials and endured. We will miss him forever.
Kurt is survived by his four children Dalton of Washington, Ruby of Wisconsin, Cooper and Ivy of Huntley, MT. He is also survived by his mother Sharon Grimsrud of Wolf Point, brothers Craig (Jerri) Grimsrud of Wolf Point and Kyle Grimsrud of Lewistown, sisters Kim (Bruce) Ferguson of Rock Creek, Shauna (Fred) Murnion of Cohagen, and Shay (Brad) Vernes of Billings. Kurt is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Chris Grimsrud and his father Larry.

Ken and Donna Sugden says
With such a large and far flung extended family it is always difficult to connect with all you would like to. It did happen with Kurt at the reunion last summer as he helped us setup our RV at the reunion. We managed to catch up on times past and relive a few memories including some with our children on our visits to the Grimsrud home. We will miss that connection but will always have the memories- thanks Kurt and Larry
Brendan Fachner says
Kurt and I had a lot of summer fun as kids at the family place on the river. I made memories I still cherish. So sorry to hear this news.
