Memorial services for Kurt Smith will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at the New Life Wesleyan Church in Gillette, Wyoming.

Kurt Smith, age 48, of Gillette, Wyoming, died October 27, 2004 at the Deaconess Clinic in Billings, Montana of complications of a sudden illness.

Kurt Smith was born December 28, 1955, the son of Wayne and Evelyn (Wostenberg) Smith in Worland, Wyoming. He was raised and educated in Laramie, Wyoming, graduating from the Laramie High School in 1974. Upon his graduation, Kurt attended Casper College in Wyoming and graduated with an Associates Degree in Coalfield Technology. After graduating college, Kurt became employed with Carter Mining at the Rawhide Mine in Gillette, Wyoming. On September 16, 1989, Kurt married Chalene Cheri Dubel in Gillette, Wyoming. After nineteen years of employment at the Rawhide Mine, he transferred to the Caballo Mine in 1996 and worked for Powder River Coal until present.

Kurt enjoyed being an outdoorsman: white water rafting, fishing, camping and hiking. He also enjoyed photography, writing, and watching sporting events such as football, basketball and baseball. He loved walking his dogs: Kaycee and Clancey as well as traveling and meeting new people.

Kurt is survived by his parents: Wayne and Evelyn Smith of Reno, Nevada; his wife of fifteen years, Cheri Smith of Gillette, Wyoming; two brothers: Dana and wife, Barbara Smith of Normandy Park, Washington; Denis Smith of Laramie, Wyoming; a sister, Vicki Lebsack of Reno, Nevada; one nephew, Alan Smith; three nieces: Brandy (Smith) Miller; Megan Smith; and Rachel Smith.
