On Monday, February 24, 2025, Lafe Soldierwolf-Dewey began his journey to Main Camp. He was born alongside his twin sister on December 10, 1958, to Mark and Florita Soldierwolf at Riverton Memorial Hospital. Lafe came from a long line of chiefs, and his Northern Arapaho name, Crazy Horse, was given to him by his grandfather, signifying his strong and proud heritage.
Lafe spent his early years in Ashland, attending elementary school there before his family returned to Arapahoe, Wyoming, where he completed his schooling. He later graduated from Riverton High School. Not long after, his journey led him to Lame Deer, where he found a home among the Northern Cheyenne people.
During his time among the Cheyenne, Lafe and Imogene united, and it was through this union that he gained a family. A humble man, a ceremonial man, and above all, a devoted family man, Lafe helped raise Anthony, Corey, Raylon Sr. and Leonard Whitedirt. His love for Imogene and their family was immeasurable.
Lafe was a four-time Sundance pledger alongside his wife, Imogene. He also went through the Pipe Ceremony at the Ethete Great Earth Lodge and actively participated in Native American Church (NAC) meetings whenever the family hosted one. A true traditionalist, he took great pride in practicing and preserving his cultural ways.
He was a proud member of the Elk Horn Society, a role he held with great honor. Within the society, he practiced and upheld his traditional and ceremonial ways, embodying the values of his ancestors. Lafe also found joy in the land, particularly in hunting. He loved to help his wife skin and gut deer, teaching the younger generations the skills and traditions passed down to him.

He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers, and sisters, all of whom will carry his legacy in their hearts.
Extended relatives include White Dirt, Sooktis, Walkslast, LaFrance, Littlewolf, Littlewhiteman, Harris and Youngbear.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Northern Cheyenne Ambulance Service and Northern Cheyenne Urgent Care for their care and compassion during Lafe’s final moments.
We apologize if we have unintentionally omitted any names, as Lafe’s family and loved ones are vast and extend far beyond what words can express. His presence, love, and teachings will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
