Dockter, age 33, of Gillette, Wyoming, died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming after a two and half year battle with cancer.
Lance Robert Dockter was born on November 10, 1970, the son of Robert Bob and Cheryl (Rohwedder) Dockter in Miller, South Dakota. He attended Hillcrest and Paintbrush elementary schools and Sage Valley Jr. High. Lance graduated from Campbell County High School in 1990. While attending high school, Lance participated in football, basketball and track. After graduation Lance attended the University of Wyoming for two years and played on the UW baseball team. After college he was employed with KG construction in Gillette, Wyoming until he moved to Missoula Montana. While in Missoula, Lance worked for various construction companies and also became a welder. In 1994 he returned to Gillette where he was employed with Osborne construction for a short time before he worked for Interstate Diesel. In 1997 Lance went to work for Cyprus Coal at the Belle Ayr mine and then transfered to the Eagle Butte mine working in production.
Lance was a member of the National Rifle Association. He played on the American Legion Post 42 baseball team as a pitcher and also played on a local softball team. Lance enjoyed the outdoors including fishing, hunting in the Jackson area, riding four-wheelers and backpacking all of which he enjoyed with his son and friends. Lance also helped coach his sons T-Ball baseball team and enjoyed golfing, listening to music and attending concerts. He saw Kid Rock twice this past summer. Most of all Lance enjoyed visiting and spending time with his family and friends.
Lance is survived by his parents Bob and Cheryl Dockter of Gillette, Wyoming; sister Kim and Gary Bress of Denver, Colorado; son Drayson Dockter of Gillette, Wyoming; grandmother Alma Dockter of Cresbard, South Dakota and Numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Lance was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather David Dockter and maternal grandparents LeRoy and Dorothy Rohwedder.
