Landa Smith, age 60, of Miles City passed away on Monday, September 29, 2008 at the HolyRosary Health Center in Miles City.
Landa was born on March 4, 1948 in Miles City, Montana to Alvin and Shirley (Morton) Friesz. She attended school in Miles City. Landa enjoyed playing with her sisters growing up. She liked riding her bike and spending time outside. She met and married Matthew L. Smith and to this marriage, two children were born. After seventeen years of marriage, they divorced. Landa loved nothing more than being a mother and grandmother. She kept very close contact with her family, whether by phone or in person. She spent many hours playing games on her computer. Landa then married her companion of many years, Robert Ashley in January of 2008. Landa and Robert enjoyed their time together. They went out to supper together and liked to play the poker and keno machines. Landa had a personality that people were drawn to. She had a special place in her heart for everyone she met.
Landa was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ashley, her parents, and her grandson, Tristen Barnaby. She is survived by a son, Scott (Lori) Smith of Miles City, MT; a daughter, Kim (Jerry) Barnaby of Gillette, WY, a very close twin sister, Linda (Gary) Smith of Forsyth, MT; a sister Lanita Smith of Billings, MT; two grandchildren: Amanda Smith of Miles City, MT; and Kayla Barnaby of Gillette, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Miles City. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
