Cleve Little Bear came into this world on February 4, 1947 at Crow Agency, Montana. He was the only child of Kitty Belle Red Cherries Posey and Peter Little Bear. He was there only offspring. He moved with his mother Kitty Belle to the Wind River Reservation where her then-current husband resided. Cleve, as everyone called him, moved back to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in February 1953. He was then cared for and raised by Grandma Rose Little Bear in Busby, Montana. He went elementary, grade, and high school at the then-Tongue River Boarding School until 1965 when he graduated. He lived and worked on the Reservation in various jobs. He joined the Army on 1968 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1970 and returned to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation where he lived for the rest of his life.
He was preceded in death by Grandma Rose, Peter and Kitty Belle. His close relatives were cousins Raymond Little Bear, Edmund Tall Bull, Vernon Tall Bull. All but Delores Little Bear Hart and Richard preceded him in death. His aunts were Lucille Little Bear, Clara Little Bear Tall Bull, Flossie Little Bear and his uncle was Horace Little Sun, Sr. This is the Little Bear side of the family. He had numerous relatives on the Red Cherries side and we ask their forgiveness for not being able to be more specific.

TO THE FAMILY OF LARRIE LITTLEBEAR THE NORTHERN CHEYENNE CHIEF COUNCIL EXTEND THEIR MOST SINCERE CONDOLENCES AND PRAYERS FOR STRENGTH DURING THIS MOST SAD, SORROWFUL AND MOURNFUL TIME FOR THE LOSS OF A BELOVED LOVE ONE.
Ann Knows His Gun says
Deepest Condolences & Prayers to his daughter & extended family. Completely shocked us as Tribal Employees, where he greeted us on a daily basis. He was always respectful, made us laugh, made us feel humble, spoke his fluent language to many of us. Whenever I walked by we said morning in our Cheyenne language or see you later … but my memory of our personal conversations was he’d always asked or call me at my office asking if I was notary yet. I felt I disappointed him cause he would send ppl to me directly to get their documents notarized. I am going to get my notary back just for him. Broke my heart he journeyed on. but will definitely miss his presence at the Little Wolf Capital Bldg. R.I.P. Cleve, you will be missed!! 😢😢😢

I just visited with Cleve last week and we talked about finances, the world events and being Cheyenne. I have good stories and memories about a man that lived very simple and spoke the truth no matter the subject. He lived a very long, unorthodoxed life and danced to the beat of his own drum. I’m really going to miss you my friend…your presence at the college and tribal office will be greatly missed. Until we meet again.

i remember this wonderful cheyenne man who always had good things to say and to make me smile when he would tease me in our cheyenne language. I would always listen to his stories and be fascinated by the way he told them..I still have to kinda think about what was said when our elders revert back to the old language…RIP and til we meet again….

I first met Cleve, as I know him, when I worked for the Council’s office. He had a wealth of information and knowledge about many things on our reservation. One thing seems common, he loved our language & encouraged that it be spoken as much as possible. I will miss our visits. I was blessed to have him apart of my life. Thank you Cleve.
Teresa McMakin says
Cleve would always tell me Ahola and I would respond with Ahola…we both would chuckle and people didn’t really know what to think…it was our inside joke…the last time was about three weeks ago….Rest in peace my friend…..

Though it’s been a number of years, I’ll always remember visiting with Cleve on numerous occasions and seeing him around Dull Knife College. It warmed my heart knowing he was around Lame Deer, I’m sad to know he’s gone on now, but I wouldn’t hold him back from going Home to Maheo. I admired him greatly for many reasons. He was a proud and humble man, an honored Cheyenne vet who connected with people and taught many lessons – just him being himself. I’ll miss his humor and teasing & listening to him speak Cheyenne and talking with him about certain words or phrases..that will stay in my heart & memory. Journey well Cleve, They’re waiting for you at the other camp. We’ll remember you until we see you again~

He had a sister, Nola Little Bear – Posey, and a brother, Andrew McAdams. Both have since past I don’t appreciate the total disregard to my grandmothers children. She may not have raised my mom and Uncle Larrie, but she was still their mother. And they are still siblings. They are all together now, and I hope they forgive the pettiness of the living. Prayers and condolences.
Glenda Littlebird and children says
