Larry (Rabbit) Hiwalker
“Hotoa’ohma’aestse“ Red Buffalo was called home Sunday September 26th 2021. Rabbit was born November 4, 1961, in Crow Agency, MT to Max Hiwalker Jr and Mildred Dolly One Bear-Hiwalker. He grew up in the Lame Deer Area, he graduated from Busby High School in 1980. Rabbit is a direct descendant of Chief Dull Knife he lived his life as a generous, kind, respectful, never boasting and often caring about others. Rabbit or Wab the names in which he was known, people were surprised to learn his real name was Larry, was the oldest of 5 children, Brother to Max (Bunny), Kim, Darrell, and Latisha Hiwalker. He had many cousins and friends he called brothers and sisters as well, (too numerous to name.) He enjoyed pow wows and helping at the ceremonies in which his dad, uncles, brothers, nephews, and family took part. He was a member of the Elk Horn Scraper society. Rabbit enjoyed fishing, hunting, swimming (known as the submarine), and listening to his music from Tupac to rock and roll and pow-wow. He was a book of Knowledge about any sports game that was played on any day. Knowing scores and highlights of just about any football or basketball games you wanted know about. Rab was a Carolina Panthers, LA Lakers, and University of Montana Grizzly fan. He enjoyed watching and following his nephews, nieces, and relatives in any sport they participated! He bought many pairs of Basketball shoes, football cleats, and letterman jackets or whatever was needed for the upcoming season.
Rabbit never had any biological children of his own but instead helped raise each of his nieces and nephews. He was our Uncle/Dad and treated all equally, helping each and every one who needed help without hesitation. He had nicknames for all of us as well as many other family members and friends. His grandchildren were all close to him and he always had candy or food money for each of them.
Rabbit was known for his Cheyenne humor, he often joked and teased with everyone who encountered him. He had many friends in life and was well known around the community. He worked for the Indian Health Services as a Custodian for 28 years having to Medically retire in 2013. Rabbit had to start dialysis in 2014 and became an amputee, even with his health issues, he looked at the positive things in life and kept his humorous ways. He was close with his fellow riders and Transport drivers.
In 2005 Rab met Julia Faye Whiteman he gained three daughters he loved dearly he called them his go-go girls Lakeisha, Latrina and Sharane. We know Rab is reunited with the love of his life he missed her dearly.

Rab, I can’t believe you are gone. I enjoyed working late shifts at the clinic and you would come in to wax floors. We always had a good visit. It was so easy to vent to you. You always had some kind of solution to my messed up ordeals..hahaha…thank you for showing you cared and always teasing me to keep up my spirits. I will miss you calling my name in that certain way that told me you had some gossip for me..lol…Rest easy my dear friend, until we meet again…Love you Rab….p.s I did find it hard to call you Larry….I will always be Rabbit….

I’m going to Miss You lots My Dear Nephew. I remember when your Mama Dolly always teased me about my Brother Max. That time at the Jr High Building when we were all talking about boots. All You Boys and Kim are Very important to Me. Have a Great Journey Home. Watch Over Us all. Love Your Auntie Vangie (Sioux Calf) Solis and Family. Give My Crazy Sister in law Dolly a hug for me.
