Larry LeRoy Ryder, age 74, of Miles City passed away on February 8, 2013 at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Larry was born on January 10 1939 in Fairview, ND, the son of Floyd Sr. & Myrtle (Barr) Ryder. He attended grade school in Trenton, ND and graduated High School in 1958. He grew up on the family farm raising cattle and growing sugar beets. After High School he enlisted in the Unites States Army in 1959, serving his country until he was honorably discharged in 1962. He married Yvonne Lyseng on April 29, 1961 in El Paso, TX. And were married for 52 years this coming April. After Larry was discharged from the Army he and Yvonne moved back to the Buford bottoms where they started farming and raising their family. In 1980, Larry started to work in the oil field and continue farming with the help of his wife and children.
Larry enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, and visiting his family and friends. He was always looking to help someone out. There was nothing that Larry couldn’t fix. Larry loved working with cattle and farming.
Larry’s biggest enjoyment in life was his Grandchildren. You could always find Larry on a four-wheeler giving rides or pulling a wagon of kids behind the lawnmower. Playing basketball with them, teaching them all about fishing, camping, playing cards, driving, and caring for any farm animal. You could also find him holding and pretending to feed baby dolls. Larry was always involving the grandkids with cooking up a good meal.
Larry looked forward every year for the Veterans Day Program in Bainville; which his grandchildren participated in.
If there was any one place that felt like home it was Grandpa and Grandmas. You would always walk in every morning, smell the fresh coffee, and find grandma and grandpa listening to the radio or morning news.
Larry taught each of his children and grandchildren how to love and not be afraid of showing affection. To all of his children and grandchildren he showed us what an OX he was, but yet one of the biggest kind hearted man there could ever be. He left more to his family than any one person ever could. We are all dearly blessed to have had so many beautiful years with such a wonderful man. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American legion and belonged to the Odd Fellows Organization.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Floyd & Myrtle Ryder; two brother-in-laws: Warren Nelson and Paul Miller; a close friend Gary Russell and several Uncles. He is survived by his wife Yvonne Ryder of Miles City, MT; his four children: Julie Ryder of Colstrip, MT; Janet (Erik) O’Connor of Colstrip, MT; Larry LeRoy Ryder II of Bainville, MT (Rachelle) and Lynette Markle (Dan) of Minot, ND; his two brothers: Clyde (Carrie) Ryder of Billings, MT and JR (Lidia) Ryder of Greeley, CO; his two sisters: Cora Lee Gallagher (Gary) of Spring Field OR and Jean Ann Nelson (Warren) of Williston, ND. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Yvonne and family,
I am deeply sorry for your loss. I have tons of memories growing up around my grandpa Russell and Larry. There were numerous times when I’d stay the night at my grandma and grandpa’s and wake up to Larry and Gramps talking and laughing away over coffee. Larry was a great man and will be missed by many. Like my Grandma said, the entire Russell family is thinking of you during this hard time.
