Memorial services for Larry Wayne Davis, 66, of Gillette will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Scott Firminhac will officiate.
Larry died on December 30, 2005 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
He was born on April 21, 1939 to Clifford and Lesta (Swafford) Davis in Pratt Kansas. He grew up in Greensberg, KS. He raised his family and drove truck until 1965 when he transferred to Gillette. A skilled driver, he drove for R&R Oil for 15 years, retiring in 1999 due to health problems.
Larry then survived cancer with strength and faith in the Lord. He used his experiences to touch and inspire many others. He spent his retirement volunteering and doing for others. Larry was active in Trinity Lutheran Church and spent his life doing the Lords work. He was often found mowing, shoveling snow, and doing any number of favors for neighbors, friends, the church or anyone in need.
Larry married Bonnie Quest in 2001 and they spent many happy times as a couple. They enjoyed riding their Goldwing, taking many special trips with family and friends. Larry had a smile for everyone, a wonderful sense of humor and a kind, gentle heart.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie Davis of Gillette, His mother, Lesta Davis of Hays, KS, 3 sons Larry Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Lyndon of Avondale, AZ and Wade Dirks of Nashville, KS. Larry had 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and one expected in January. He is also survived by 1 brother Butch Davis of Cathern, KS 1 sister, Cheryl Weese of Pratt, Kansas and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Davis and a brother, Ronald Davis.
