Larry Withee, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the Garfield County Nursing Home in Jordan.
Larry was born in Jordan, Montana on April 11, 1942 to Teddy Withee. About the time of Larry’s birth, she contracted MS and was bed ridden the remainder of her life. Teddy and Larry were looked after by her sister Rusty and her husband, Jim Haight. Larry grew up in Garfield County, attending country schools and graduating from Garfield County High School in 1959. Following high school he worked for various ranches in the area. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was a Navy Seaman 3rd Class on the USS Constellation, an aircraft carrier off the coast of Vietnam. Following his honorable discharged from the service he returned to Jordan to help his aunt Rusty run the family ranch. He loved and took care of all their animals, but was especially fond of his sheep, who followed him wherever he went. In the early 1990’s he moved into Jordan. He began working for the Garfield County High School, where he worked for about 10 years, and also worked for the Garfield County Courthouse in maintenance. Larry started a lawn care business in Jordan. He was also an avid fan of the auction sales and enjoyed all the wheeling and dealing. Larry was a regular patron of the library and had his own extensive book collection. He also was a proud member of the VFW in Jordan. During his retirement, Larry loved going to coffee at the homes of many of his friends, and with the local coffee groups. No one questioned Larry when it came to recollection of history, birthdays and names. He also attended many church services at the different churches in Jordan and especially loved the potlucks. He made many good friends through the years and treasured those friendships. In March of 2016, he moved into the Garfield County Nursing Home, where he was at the time of his death.
Larry is survived by his dear friends and the Jordan Community. A special thank you to the Garfield County Nursing Home staff.
