Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City.

Rite of Committal: Old Calvary Cemetery

Laura Jean Stanley, age 91, of Miles City passed away on Friday, October 06, 2006 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.

Jean was born on July 20, 1915 on the family ranch west of Ismay, Montana, the daughter of George R. and Catherine F. (Curley) Smith. Jean grew up and attended schools at Ismay, where she graduated from High School. Jean married Mark Stanley in 1934 in Miles City and to this union, four children were born: J.R., Ann, Douglas, and Duncan. Mark and Jean ran theIsmay Bar and Restaurant for many years and Jean also carried the mail from Ismay to Mildred. They later moved to Wibaux where they managed the Parsons ranch outside of Wibaux. In 1955, they moved to Miles City where they lived until 1957 when they moved to North Dakota to ranch, before moving back to Miles City in 1958 where Jean worked at the Met Cafe and Torgerson Drug.

Jean loved to sew, crochet, knit, cooking, playing cards and coffee time with friends. She always had a pot of coffee on for guests. Jean would do anything for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors in Ismay and was active in the Sacred Heart Church.

Jean is survived by her children: J.R. Stanley of Miles City, MT; Ann Stegall and her husband Bill of Picayune, MO; and Duncan Stanley and his wifeZandra of Miles City, MT; a daughter-in-law, Cecelia Stanley of Miles City, MT; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren a nephew, Alastaire J. Smith of South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mark in 1995, a son Douglas in 1989, a granddaughter Jeri Ann in 1971, and two brothers: Harry and Doug Smith.

A Rosary will be held on Monday, October 9, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Rite of Committal will follow in the Old Calvary Cemetery.
