In Memory Of

Lauraleen “Laura” Harris Sioux age 74 of Lame Deer

January 14, 1942 – February 2, 2016

Lauraleen “Laura” Harris Sioux

Motse’eoehnehe’e  “Sweet Medicine Woman”

Our beloved mother, sister, and friend left us to journey home to Maheo’ on February 2, 2016 from a short battle with cancer. She was 74 years old.

Laura was born January 14, 1942 to Raymond Harris Sr. and Bertha Foote at the Lame Deer Agency hospital.

She was raised on Muddy Creek with her siblings’ on the family ranch. In her younger years she often rode from Muddy Creek with her dad down to Birney hunting along the way and spending the night with her aunt Lucille.  Laura grew up during the boarding school days at St. Labre Mission, where she was a majorette for the Drum and Bugle Corp. Later she attended Colstrip High School and Eastern Montana College for a brief time.

Laura met the love of her life Leon Sioux and later married on December 28, 1958, in Billings, MT. After marrying she moved with Leon when he was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington while in the Army.   Spending 62 years together they raised their seven (7) children on the Sioux Ranch, but also welcomed other children into their family home. This was one of her greatest accomplishments.

Laura worked for the Lame Deer School as a teacher’s aide and Northern Cheyenne Head Start Program where she retired in 2007. In her lifetime, she did many things: a great home maker, gardener, horse woman, ranch work, avid berry picker and later an arrowhead hunter. She had a love for sports, often watching the Olympics. Some of her favorite Olympic sports were gymnastics and figure skating. She also enjoyed watching football, baseball, volleyball and badminton. Some of her favorite athletes were Tiger Woods and Serena Williams.

Her children, grandchildren, and adopted children are: Lorna Sioux, Merlin Sioux, Albert Sioux, April (Jeff) Cady, Marita Sioux, Waylon Sioux, Patricia (Juan) Ramos.  Adopted Daughter: Brenda (Eric) Timber, Adopted Son: Wesley (Renessa) Rusette, Rory (Bridgette) O’Conner.  Grandchildren: Josh, Mikey, Zack, Dustyn, Andrea, Bailey, Chandra, Lilly, Justin, Marisol, Jakob, Rhylan, Paris, Colton, Ruby and Zion.  Great-Grandchildren: Haythen, Jahdion, Rydon, Cruz, Judhia, and Bryson.

Surviving Sisters and Brothers: Priscilla Robinson, Patricia Rowland, Annie (Charlie) Messer, Maria (Earl) Charette, Alberta Twenty Stands, Denise (Hymn) Alexander, Clinton (Kathy) Harris, Mathew (Serina) Harris, Richard Foote, Sr., Adrian (Patricia) Foote, and Clara Harris. Other extended family include: William (Donita) Rowland, Raymond (Chahoristah) Rowland, and Cheryl (Tillman) Sanchez.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents: Raymond Harris, Sr. & Bertha Foote Harris. Siblings: Micheal Lee Harris, Eleanor Anderson, Celesta Spang, Jimmy Foote, Raymond Harris, Jr., Tony Foote, and Albert “Clifford” Foote.

We have a very large family. Please forgive us if we forgot your name.

Laura was such a wonderful lady. Always full of cheer. It was so nice to see her this past summer, even though she was sick, she was the same happy lady telling stories about all her family that she was so proud of. She was so happy to be able to meet and hold my baby girl. Thinking about all her family during this difficult time.
