Lauretta Winkley, age 77, of Miles City, passed away on August 18, 2021 at Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana.
Lauretta was born on October 9, 1943, in Lovell, WY to Verl and Lois (Bassett) Asay. She and her family lived in Wise River, Clyde Park and Livingston during her adolescent years. She married Charles Winkley on July 13, 1961, in Rapid City, SD. They lived in many different places but eventually moved to Miles City to be close to family. While raising her 3 children, she worked as a maid at the Custer Inn, then moved to laundry. She then worked many years for the 4-B’s restaurant starting as a dishwasher then to the dinner cook until she retired. Her work ethic was important, and she always moved up because they knew she would do a good job. In her retirement years she enjoyed numerous pets, but dogs were the preferred companion. She loved to feed the birds and take many pictures of them, and of nature.
Lauretta is survived by a daughter Laurie (Tim) Drennen of Moreno Valley, CA, two sons: John (Jennifer) Winkley and Sam (Kathy) Winkley of Miles City; two sisters: Sally Mueller of Lewiston, ID, and Margie Lane of Miles City. 3 grandchildren; Nick Drennen, Shelby Winkley, and Amanda Winkley, and one great-granddaughter, Gracie. One honorary adopted daughter, Kristy Mendenhall. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, Karen, Sharon and Josie, and brother Jay.

John and family, Lauretta was such a special and wonderful friend. I loved visiting with her when she’d come in St. Vincent’s and I missed her when she could no longer do so. She loved her family and we shared a lot of laughs over the antics of her dog! She was just a treasure and will be missed greatly!

I will always remember our trips with Grandma and Boyd to visit the family. I still remember playing in the river at Wise River. Also your great talent for drawing, especially horses. May you enjoy your re-union with your family on the other side and God Bless your family here.
