Vonahaamehne’e (Sacred Lodge Walking Woman)
Grandma Lavina left this world during the night of April 13, 2016.
Lavina a mother, sister, grandmother and Great Grandmother was born in Muddy Creek on November 16, 1940. Muddy Creek is where her parent’s Henry & Pauline Black Wolf raised her and her siblings. Lavina, the oldest of all the kids, whom she always spoke of were the Blackwolf’s, BearComesOut and Brady’s. She spoke fond memories of being raised with her siblings in Muddy Creek. Riding horseback was the best time. Lavina and her siblings all have stories, at family gatherings they would tell their stories and just enjoy the memories together. Lavina was a decedent of Chief Blackwolf and Chief Dull Knife. Lavina was an avid horse lady, often told stories of traveling to local rodeos. She and the girls would join the Indian Relay, they were one of the few Indian Lady Relay Teams. I say girls because I do not remember the girls names. She would say “Myself, Lillian, Beverly, and another lady.” The last names I never got. Lavina worked hard all her life. Her work history consisted of working for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe onto Lame Dear School where she worked as a supply clerk and a bus driver. In the mid 1970’s she worked for St. Labre Indian School. She retired in 1985 and returning again to work for St. Labre in 1998 until November of 2013. She was forced to retire her R.A. just got the best of her.
Lavina is survived by her children Darrell, Sandy, Dean Sr., Darius, Andrew & Rhonda Salois and her niece who carries her Indian name Michelene BearComesOut. Lavina’s life and heart was full, then she became a grandmother to: Nia & Derek Blackwolf, Chan Bruised Head, Alisha Rogers Fisher, Dean Blackwolf Jr., Jared “Jose” Bear Robe, Rosie Fisher, Danae Blackwolf and the youngest of her grandbabies Jo “Babes” Bruised Head. Again her heart and life were full then she became a great grandmother to Hailey Bruised Head, Emma Fisher, Kess Lee Spear, Carson Bruised Head, Ronnie Fisher, Tayo Blackwolf, Bentley Bruised Head, Kayla Fisher, Shandell Blackwolf, Zaibrey Iron, Shawny Spear and Baby Boy Blackwolf who is on his way, coming over the waters. She would get excited when she heard another great grand baby coming. She would say, “another great grand baby coming over the waters!” Lavina is also survived by her brothers Michael Bear Comes Out Sr., Lawrence Long Roach, Bruce White Sr. and the family she was raised with: Bear Comes Out’s, Blackwolf’s, Brady’s and Shoulderblade’s. Lavina is preceded in death by her parents Henry & Pauline Blackwolf, her sisters: Leona Limberhand & Patricia Blackwolf; her brothers: Henry Jr., John Blackwolf and Leland Blackwolf; her granddaughter Rosanne Fisher; her nephews Rodney Limberhand, Llevando Fisher Jr., Lyndon White and Woody White. Also who preceded her was Herman Bear Comes Out, Bernadine, Frances, Wendell and Wendaline Shoulderblade and her other family Wanda, Linda, Leonard, Everett and Benjamin Youngbear. Lavina had friends from all over the place, these friends were from casinos, hand games, work and family the Blackwolf’s, Bear Comes Out’s, Brady’s, Shoulderblade’s, Limberhand’s, Wolfname’s, Young Man Afraid Of His Horse’s, White’s, Salois, Sankey’s and the St. Labre Mail Department.
