Lawrence Benjamin Neiss Sr. passed away June 2nd, 2015 in Billings, MT. He was born September 11th, 1942 to Lawrence and Ellen Neiss in Rosebud, South Dakota and raised by his grandparents Ben and Pearl Comesoutbear. Lawrence went to He Dog Elementary and attended high school at St. Francis. After leaving high school he joined the military in the early 1960s and worked in artillery unit as a jeep gunner, while serving his country he was stationed in Germany and South Korea and was later honorably discharged in the mid-1960’s. Lawrence competed in rodeos as a bull rider and traveled the rodeo trail with his good friends Tim Murry and Roger Lapointe. He met the love of his life Wendeline Shoulderblade and they were united in marriage in 1970. From this union they were blessed with two sons Lawrence Jr. “Sioux Boy” and Clayton “Oly” Neiss. From a previous relationship he was blessed with his only daughter Brenda Neiss. Over the years he worked for many ranchers, he loved animals and being outside surrounded by nature. He had a deep respect for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and their traditions; he became part of the Kit Fox Society where he was actively involved within the community. Lawrence became a member of the Shoulderblade family. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife Wendeline, mother Ellen, brothers Jesse, Wesley & Thomas Ironshell, William Neiss, and his sister Colleen Larvie. He is survived by his children Clayton(Leslie), Lawrence Jr., and Brenda, brothers James Neiss, Frank and Mike Ironshell, Don(Ruthie)and Francis(Sharon)Shoulderblade, sisters Mary, Kathy, and Pearl, Mary Shoulderblade, Wilma Two Moons, Adopted sister Bonnie (Orville) Belt, Sis & Doc Elliot, Late Floyd & Gloria Waters and Family, grandchildren Karina, Jason, Ivalee, Canyon, Cameron, Cody, Shawntay, McKinlei, and Haven. We would like to thank St. Vincent Healthcare, Rocky Mountain Hospice, and all the doctors and nurses who provided loving care for Lawrence. A traditional wake will be held at 7pm June 4th, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lame Deer, Montana. Funeral Services will be 11am Friday June 5th, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish. Burial with full military honors and last ride will follow in the Pius Basin Cemetery, South of Lame Deer.
