Funeral Service: Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. with Steve Grey Hawk and Rev. Dr. James Isaac of the Presbyterian Church officiating

Interment: Chelsea Cemetery

Lawrence Chiefy Boxer, age 65, of Poplar passed away on January 26, 2004.

Chiefy was born February 26, 1938 to the late Tony Boxer and the late Mary Louise Grey Hawk in Poplar, MT. Chiefy graduated from Poplar High School in 1957. Right after graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was honorably discharged in April 1963. In 1967, he began working for the BIA Law Enforcement, and then the Tribal Law Enforcement and was also a dispatcher for the tribal jail, then a guard at the Juvenile Detention Center. During his younger years, he was an all-star basketball player, a champion grass dancer, later switching to mens traditional. He danced all over Canada and the United States making many new friends.

In 1964, Chiefy met Mary Pauline Red Eagle, and later married. They divorced in 1983 but stayed friends. Out of this union they raised five wonderful children as their own.

Surviving are three daughters, Alberta K. Eagle of Poplar, Laurie (Raymond) Keeswood of New Mexico, Pauline (Cordell) Four Bear of Poplar; two sons, Arnold (Dawn) Eagle of Poplar and Henry of Billings; another daughter Ethleen Weed of WY; two adopted sons, Ralph Jone's of Brockton and Gerald Bootsie (Shirley) Jackson of Poplar. He is also survived by three sisters, Sharon Boxer, Corrine (Arthur) Brown, Jr., and Arden Boxer, all of Poplar; three brothers, Tony Boxer of Toppenish, WA, Sherman Boxer of Albuquerque, NM, and Steven Grey Hawk of Poplar. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, including his pride and joy Erika Nichelle Boxer, and numerous great grandchildren.

Preceding him is death were his parents, brothers Harvey Dean Boxer, Leonard Lenny Boxer, Benji Gray Hawk, one sister Gen Boxer, his grandparents, Josephine and Benji Gray Hawk, Sr., that had raised him, two sons Vernon D. Boxer and Leonard Butter Tuske of Ft. Yates, ND, and adopted mother Rosalin Shields.

Chiefys wake service will be held January 30, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the Poplar Cultural Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. with Steve Grey Hawk and Rev. Dr. James Isaac of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in the Chelsea Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at csmc@nemontel.net or www.stevensonandsons.com.
