In Memory Of

Lee Harris, 82, of Muddy Creek

Lee Harris, proud husband, father, grandfather, and brother, was born to Agnes Harris, August 8, 1934, on Muddy Creek. He lived with his grandparents, William and Margret Harris on the Harris homestead, Muddy Creek, Montana. To this day, he lived there where he kept a few good mares and Quarter Horse Stallions on the place. Lee attended school at Muddy Creek School then on to St. Labre, in Ashland. Much later in life he received his Honorary Degree from the Chief Dull Knife College in May of 2017. He was a part of the Northern Cheyenne Cattle Company (T.P. Ranch) then, worked for Victor Small Sr. on Kirby Creek. They were very close friends. He also worked for the BIA Road Dept. In 1949 Grandpa sent him to Nebraska with a load of 2 year old steer calves. There were 42,780 on the market that day at the Omaha Stockyard. There were 12 guys that went to represent themselves. As of today, Jack Bailey, is the only survivor of that group.

Lee went to Arizona in the winter months to work the rodeo circuit. He got to travel all over, some of the places included Houston stock show, in Fort Worth, TX and Madison Garden RCA. He belonged to the RCA NRCA and was a representative for the NCLA.

For rest and relaxation, Lee would go to Old Mexico with 90 silver dollars and come back with only 1. He would do a lot of trading even though he would only be there a few weeks.

In 1958, he came back to work for John and Hamm Scott at the head of Muddy Creek, where they had a lease. Lee trailed cattle all over from Miles City to Powderville for the next 3 years.

On his way from Powderville to Ashland, in 1964, he met a red headed girl, who he fell deeply in love with. He and Dorothy were to be married August 24, 1964, in Fort Yates, North Dakota.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Harris; grandparents, William and Margret Harris, and Richard Rowland.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; son, Billy Harris, of Muddy Creek; daughter, Andrita Harris (Charlie Lei), of Muddy Creek; grandchildren, Dylan and Tegan, of Muddy Creek; Nedra (Mike) Watt and family, of Ashland; Georgia (Tommy) Graham and family, Ashland; Bill (Mary Ann) Mason and family, of Lame Deer; and Jeanette Harris, of Rolla, North Dakota. Our Families include the Harris, Burns, Spang, Robinson, Dahle, Rowland families. Our family is large, so please forgive us if we have forgotten anyone. We would also like to give a special thank you to the Saint Vincent Staff and Martha Burton PA.

    Dorothy, Billie, Andy and family,
Lee was one of my most favorite cowboys. His laugh and stories always my day. I never bet on a horse race without thinking what would Leigh do first. God took one of his finest home and I know he’s riding a good horse in tall green grass. Sending our love and prayers.
