Leland Kaul, age 54, of Gillette, Wyoming, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming of a long term illness.

Leland Lee Kaul Sr. was born April 9, 1950, the son of Gerold and Maxine (Whetham) Kaul in Lynch, Nebraska. In 1968, Lee graduated from Newcastle High School in Newcastle, Wyoming. During high school, Lee was a Boy Scout of America, an honorary member of Demolay, and in the National Honor Society. He attended two years at Chadrin College in Nebraska and in 1991, received a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Regis University. On June 3, 1972, Lee married Beatriz Garcia in Tucson, Arizona. While in Arizona, Lee managed the Jack In The Box Restaurant. The couple returned to Newcastle, Wyoming, where he managed the Tesoro Truck Stop and Cafee for his parents. In October of 1978, he moved to Gillette, Wyoming where he managed Shakeys Restaurant, then Long John Silvers. He was employed with General Electric as a truck driver, and also worked on haul trucks for the mines. Lee moved to sales, working for General Electric for over 20 years, retiring due to health problems.

Lee was a member of Jaycees in Newcastle; he enjoyed watching NASCAR and pro football on television. Broncos were his favorite team. Lee also liked to read, and taught himself how to run a computer. Lee also was a big family man. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren. Lee was the kind of person who never knew a stranger and never had a loss of words.

Lee is survived by his grandfather, Robert Whetham of Newcastle, Wyoming, his mother, Maxine (Whetham) Kaul of Newcastle, Wyoming; his wife, Beatriz Kaul of Gillette, Wyoming; three sons: Jeffrey Kaul; Leland Kaul both of Gillette, Wyoming; Gerold (Melissa) Kaul of Englewood, Colorado; two brothers: Greg (Debbie) Kaul of Houston, Texas; Kelly (Elaine) Kaul of Gillette, Wyoming; one sister, Janet (Jim) Williamson of Gillette, Wyoming; four grandchildren with one on the way: Cody, Colton, Selina and Jasmine; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerold Mort Kaul, uncles, and grandmother.
