Interment: Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery with Military Honors
Leland Miles Barnhart, age 74 of Miles City, Montana, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2003 at his home after a short battle with cancer. Miles was born on October 19, 1929, at Grassy Butte, North Dakota, the son of Leslie Jim and Hattie (Godfrey) Barnhart. He attended schools in Grassy Butte and Medora.
Following his schooling he worked as a cowboy on area ranches. Miles entered the U.S. Army on November 29, 1951 and was stationed in Germany and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from the Army on November 6, 1953. Miles married Janet VanDaele in Miles City on August 1, 1955. Together they had six children. Miles continued to work on ranches in the Wibuax and Medora areas until 1978 when he moved to Washington. In 1991, he returned to Miles City where he worked until May of 2000 when he retired he began living with his son Les.
Miles loved the outdoors, working with his horses and doing his work. He also his little dog Izzy, eating ice cream, chocolate, listening to good country music, but most of all being with his family and grandchildren. Miles is survived by two sons; Les and his wife Missy Barnhart of Miles City, MT and Cody Barnhart of Phoenix, AZ, four daughters; Rita Penny Fasching and Mike Houser of Phoenix, AZ, Gloria Jean Barnhart of Leavenworth, WA, Amber Butch and her husband Greg LaBelle of Wibaux, MT, and Cindy and her husband David Young of Phoenix, AZ, three brothers; Gerald (Dorothy) Barnhart, Gaylord (Irene) Barnhart, and Clifford (Delores), two sisters; Gloria (Max) Wilson, and Joan (Jack) Johnson, seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death y his parents and a sister LaDelphia.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2003 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Bible Church. Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery.
