Magdalena Marie Lena (Jurica)Dodds, age 100, of Miles City passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
Lena was born on September 15, 1907 at Flatonia, Texas to Anton and Clara (Maresh)Jurica. The family arrived atPowderville, Montana in 1916 as original homesteaders. She graduated from Custer County District High School in 1928 and from Montana State Normal College in Dillon in 1936. She taught at rural schools around Miles City, including the Spring Creek, Damm, Hirsch, and Cross S Schools. While teaching at the Silver Star and Waterloo schools, she met and married Melvin Dodds at Whitehall, Montana in 1938. Throughout her married life, she lived in Whitehall, Long Beach, CA, Billings, and then returning to Miles City in 1975. After the death of her husband in 1994, she became a resident of the former Custer County Rest Home and the current Holy Rosary Extended Care.
Lena is survived by nine nieces and nephews: Ina (Thulesen) McRae of Miles City; Jim Thulesen of South Dakota; JerryThulesen of Billings; Roberta (Jurica) Carlson of Virginia; Dennis Jurica of Washington;Kayreen (Jurica) Burns of Oregon; Sandra (Jurica) Mercer and Rita (Jurica) Anderson of Wyoming; and Leo Jurica ofPowderville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Dodds, her brothers, Alvin and BenJurica and a sister Eleanor Thulesen.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Health Center Chapel. Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery.
