Leon Denson, age 92, of Miles City passed away at the Holy Rosary Healthcare Extend Care in Miles City on February 27, 2010.
Leon was born on March 14, 1917 in Miles City, Montana the son of Farnham and Wanda Cornelia (Kelly) Denson. Leon attended school through the 8th grade at Washington School. During the Depression years Leon worked in the CCC camps in the Custer National Forest near Ashland. When Leon was 17 he lost his right hand as a result of a hunting accident and as a result he was sidelined when war broke out. He went to Chicago to attend telegraphic school and it was there where he met Marjorie Ann Dunlap at a dance. They were married in June of 1941. When Leon returned to Miles City he went to work for the railroad for a few years. Leon then went to work for Love Motor Company in Miles City as the parts manager. Leon continued to work for Love Motor and later Miles City Ford for the next 45 years. Leon and Marge also worked at the Sunset Drive In during the summers. Leon enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, woodworking and hunting and working with agates. There wasnt anything he didn't try to fix. Leon traded and bartered for everything and hardly anything ever went to waste. Leon was a member of the Elks and the Masons. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Grace Bible Church.
Leon is survived by his son Denny (Louise) of Prineville, Oregon, daughter Jeanne (Will) Duke of Portland, Oregon, son Scott (Jenette) of Miles City, and son Brian of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie, and his sister Thelma Uerling.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 with the family to receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 4 2010 at 11:00 am at Grace Bible Church. Internment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery.
