Leslie Levi Whitewolf ( Hetané Nahkohe- Man Bear ) a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and grandpa, was called home on October 20, 2020. He was born on May 21, 1956 to Fred Sr. and Carol Ann Whitewolf in Crow Agency, MT. He grew up in northside Lame Deer and attended school here until he graduated 8th grade. After eighth grade he continued his education at Colstrip High School where he excelled in football and basketball before graduating in 1974. He later attended Freeman Junior College in Freeman, SD, where he met the love of his life Theresa. Leslie and Theresa were married on June 6, 1976 and spent 44 wonderful years together. Through this union they had eight children.
While living in Freeman, Leslie worked at AMPI Milk Plant for six years before moving back home to Lame Deer. After returning home he spent several years working for the Commodity Program as the Surplus Cheese clerk where he met many elders during his monthly deliveries. Leslie later worked at the Lame Deer Public School before retiring.
Leslie enjoyed watching football, basketball, boxing, bull riding and horse racing. He was an avid horseman helping his Dad to take care of his cattle early in life. He later became a member of the American Quarter Horse Association receiving a Racing Register of Merit Award for his racehorse That’s My Partner who won First Place at Energy Downs on July 14, 1990 in Miles City, MT. He loved horse racing and attending the Annual Bucking Horse Sale in Miles City.
Leslie loved his family, taking pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred Sr. and Carol Ann Whitewolf, his sisters, his brothers Joseph Jr. and Isadore Whitewolf and granddaughter Ariah and his brother/friend Johnny Boy Whiteman Jr.
Leslie is survived by his wife Theresa, brothers Mark and Fred Jr, daughters Jenifer (John), Stephanie (Greg), Carissa, Lindsey (Brandy), Ashley (Lloyd), Brooke (Tom), Contessa, and Shelby. Nieces and nephews Lorilei, Wade, Amy and Denise. His grandchildren Joshua (Stella), Jasmine (Cody), Gwendolyn, Tyrese, Keira, Burton, Devin, Hailey, Carson, Ileianna, Isabella, Eliza, Cleveland and Teagan and great-grandchildren Rhyler and Cynthia. He also had many cousins that were like siblings and extended family including Walksalong, Wolf, Hart, Limpy, Limberhand, Bigback, Killsnight, Wolf Name, Whiteman, Brady, Stands-in-Timber, Yellow Nose, Ridge Walker, Two Bulls, Whitemoon, LittleWhirlwind, FireCrow, Yellow Robe, Whitewolfs of South Dakota, Tangled Yellow Hair, Littlebird, Tallwhiteman, Redwoman, Yellow Hair, Red Breath, Twenty Stands, Lightning, Red Cherries, Bearchum, Lost Leg, Littlemouth and many friends. Our family is extensive so please forgive us if we forgot anyone. He will be greatly missed.
