Lester David Strobel, age 51, of Terry, MT passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City.

Lester, son of Dorothy Strobel and the late David Strobel, was born on August 12, 1956 at Terry, MT. He received his education grades first through fourth at rural Strobel School and grades fifth through twelve at Wibaux, MT. After graduation he entered the US Coast Guard in October 1974. He served four years being stationed in California for basic training and New York Long Island for further training. He was then stationed in Kodiak Islands, Lake Superior and on the Arkansas River.

Lester returned to rural Fallon to ranch/farm with his parents at Cabin Creek. Life on Cabin Creek gave Lester great joy as he loved to weld and build things with his hands. Lester married Barbara Marie Silva ODea in 1983. To this union were born two children, Justin Joshua of Glendive, MT and April Nicole of Colorado Springs, CO. Declining health forced a move to Terry with his parents in 1996. Lester had lived the last two years and two months at the Prairie Community Health Center in the nursing home. Lesters family wants to thank all those caregivers at the Prairie Community Health Center for their loving care of Lester.

Lester is survived by his mother, Dorothy Strobel of Terry, MT, son Justin Strobel of Glendive, MT, grandson Joshua of Glendive, MT; daughter April of Colorado Springs, CO and step-son Brent ODea of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by his sisters Pamela (Dale) Bilyeu of Ballentine, MT, Mary Ellen Swanson and her children David (Nicole) Swanson and Lyn Swanson of Fairbanks, AK. Lester is also survived by his aunts Stasia Gernells of Billings, MT, Pauline Carrick of Cheyenne, WY, Helen (Don) Doyle of Boise, ID, and Erna Thompson of Davis, CA.

Lesters greatest joy in life was farming/ranching and his family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 from 1:00pm to 8:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry, MT. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Evangelical Church of North America in Fallon, MT. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm at the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry, MT with full military honors. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.

I don’t know if anyone will see this–but here goes—Les was my best friend at DC school in New York. Never forget the time we sneaked behind the chutes at Madison Square Gardens for the RCA rodeo…we were both homesick (I was a ranch hand from Sheridan WY when I joined the CG) and we loved working the chutes that night. We spent many many nights together “cowboying” in Times Square and on the subways of New York, the summer of ’75, always looking but never finding a really good country bar . He got me home after a long night in Minneapolis and we shook hands and said goodbye in Billings in September 1975. I have thought of him often over the years and I am deeply saddened to now find that he has passed. God Bless him and the Strobel family.
