In Memory Of

Leticia M. Betancourt, age 21, of Lame Deer

September 8, 1999 – July 21, 2021

Our beautiful daughter, sister, auntie, granddaughter, proud mother and friend to all, Leticia Maria Betancourt Améóhnée “Walksalong Woman” left us unexpectedly on July 20th, 2021.

Leticia Maria Betancourt was born on September 8th, 1999 in Crow Agency, MT to her proud parents Manuel Betancourt and Denise Spang Betancourt. She was named after one of her aunties from Mexico, Leticia Maria Garcia. Her grandparents James and Aladine asked Fern Shoulderblade for her Indian name to give to Leticia, Ameohnee “Walkingalong Woman”.

She grew up in Muddy Creek, Montana. She always enjoyed spending time with her family and cousins, as well as her grandparents James and Aladine Spang. All the cousins would often gather and play games with each other, such as basketball, tag, or put on make-up.

She attended school at St. Labre, Lame Deer, and Northern Cheyenne Tribal Schools, she received her GED from Chief Dull Knife College.

Leticia worked at the Lame Deer Boys and Girls Club as a program coordinator. In this position she had numerous responsibilities, but her favorite part was being with the kids and planning activities for them.

Leticia’s life changed forever on December 19th, 2017 when her son, Lorenzo De Jesus Betancourt, was born. Lorenzo was the light of Leticia’s life as well as her family’s.

Leticia was proud of her Mexican and Cheyenne heritages. She enjoyed cruising with her friends and son. She was also skilled at doing makeup. She was fun to be around and all of her friends and family have a fun memory with her. She was a loyal friend and amazing mother. We will miss her laugh and presence. Don’t worry Leticia, we will all take care of Lorenzo.

Leticia is preceded in death by her grandparents James Spang, grandmother Pascuela Villa-Betancourt, Auntie Kammie Sue Spang and her cousin Kammie Spang

She is survived by her one and only son Lorenzo De Jesus, her parents Manuel and Denise Betancourt, brothers Jose Betancourt and Riston Spang (Sarah), her sister and best friend Sheniece Betancourt, Bessie Roundstone and Lareyna Rodriguez. Grandmother Aladine Spang, Grandfather Jose Betancourt, Aunts Ilene Spang (Joe), Rita Hiwalker (Cedric), Gail Long Jaw, Chris Spang, Esperanza, Oga, Catalina, and Hortensia Betancourt-Villa. Uncles Nathan Spang, Jose, Juan, Jeorge, Arnufo Betancourt-Villa, Jeremy and Jon Jon Foote. Cousins Julian(Paulee)Skyler, Taylor, Miranda, Chelsey, Kylan, Kash, Cierra (Trustin), Abigail (Levi), Kaylesha, Kobi, Makenzie, Sage, Shaydel, Trevor, and Leo.
