Lida Ollie Denny-Menz passed away at her home in Wolf Point of natural causes on August 7, 2003.
Lida was born to Orrin Levert and Stella Mariah Half Red Denny on May 7, 1916 in Blair, MT. Lida married Gale E. Menz on January 15, 1935. She enjoyed sewing, baking, canning, gardening, watching TV, singing, attending church, praying, and reading the Bible. Lida loved shopping, visiting fellow friends, cruising to Williston and Sidney. She enjoyed riding horseback and spending time with her great-grandchildren. Lida was a lifetime Elder of Red Eagle Presbyterian Memorial Church, and a member of the choir and served in the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Fort Peck Tribal Board from 1963-1965 and 1967-1977. She was appointed to the enrollment committee on March 25, 1985 and as enrollment chairman on May 22, 1989 and served from then to the present for a total of 18 years. She was an area Indian Health Board member since November 28, 1977 and was also appointed to work on Election Ordinance on August 25, 1975. She was president of Little Helpers for Danelle Menz and Stacey Summers.
She is survived by her son Gale (Dusty) Menz of Ft. Kipp and sister Serena Necklace Good Soldier of Ft. Kipp. She helped raise Mona Engen, Josephine Robinson, Ed Crawford, Mary Jane Robinson, Gerald (Geisch) Lambert, Loretta Red Elk, Valerie Red Elk, Alberta Kennedy, Louie Beauchamp, Francis and Freddy Menz, Loren and Herman Red Elk, Johnny Menz, Isabelle and Donna Youngman, Johnny Boyd, Lance Brown and David Menz. She is survived by grandchildren, Stacey Menz-Summers, Danelle Menz, Gale E. Menz, Myron W. Menz, Trudy E. Menz, Misty L. Menz, Dustin L. Menz, Leslie D. Menz, Kaycee L. Menz, and Lance Wayne Brown. She is survived by great-grandchildren, Kinsey Charles Skillen, Myron Victor Jerome Menz, Sierra Marie Summers, Emerlee Lynn Menz, Jerek Cade Summers, Diamond Jade Menz, cher Menz, Angelo Boyd, and many others who called her grandma.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gale E. Menz and son Emery W. Menz. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Loattie Boyd, Almena Red Dog, Myrtle and Viola and brothers Verle Denny, Salfred Necklace and Marvin Denny.
Grandma, you will be dearly missed. You were remarkable! We love you!
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at the Red Eagle Presbyterian Church in Ft. Kipp with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at the James Black Dog Hall in Ft. Kipp on Wednesday August 13. Interment will be in Ft. Kipp Cemetery.
