November 18, 1971 – September 3, 2023

In Memory of Lisa Lane Basila of Tinamaste, Costa Rica, formerly of Arizona and Lame Deer, MT. November 18, 1973 – September 3, 2023.

Lisa passed away due to a tragic car accident in Costa Rica on September 3, 2023. Lisa is survived by her husband, Greg of 30 years, Daughter Baylee Basila of Oakland, California and son Brody Basila and Nash (miniature schnauzer) of the family home.

Her mom Carla Small, sister Gina Small (Paul Ferro), nephews, Tyler Sandal and children (Aubree & Isaiah), Blake, Ryan and Dylan. Maternal Aunts; Jeni, Geri, Wanda, Gail (Joe). Maternal Uncles; Clayton (Maha), Horace Jr (Avalee). Special cousins: Jesse and Kaycee Martinez; Lisa leaves behind many beloved cousins and Shonda Peterson, a longtime friend.

Her dad Marvin Beartusk, Margie (paternal grandmother), paternal aunts; Darlene (Mike), Jeanie, Carolyn (Jason), Paternal Uncle Larry (Marcy).

Basila-in-laws, Desiree, Sheree, Kimberly, Racine, Stephanie, Raquel; and brother-in-law, David.

Lisa is preceded in death by Maternal grandparents Horace and Mabel Small, special cousin Shawn Del LaFranier, Special Uncle Gerald LaFranier, Cousins; Taezha Jo, Clayton Jr, Stephanie, Robert C. Quinton, and Clifford Jr.,  maternal uncles Cordell and Clifford.

Lisa lived her life to the fullest and traveled the world with her beautiful family which included countries ranging from Europe to China and ultimately landing in Costa Rica. Lisa loved entertaining and hosting parties for friends and family. She really enjoyed cooking and baking. She was continually trying new recipes and improving old ones. Of course, above all, was her unmatched love for her daughter, Baylee, son Brody, husband Greg, and her dog, Nash. Her laugh and smile would light up every room she entered. She was loved so because she so loved everyone. Lisa was an avid fan of all NBA games, especially her favorite team the Phoenix Suns. During Lisa’s visits home, she always set time aside to watch an NBA game with her dad. Lisa’s Cheyenne name was “Bird Woman”, Vékêséhà’e. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Mabel Small. Wild birds loved to flock around Lisa’s patio and deck; hummingbirds, toucans, macaws, often one of the birds would fly into the patio windows and Lisa would hold and nurse the birds back to health.

The family would like to thank the staff at CampoSanto Vida Eterna in Perez Zeledon, Costa Rica.

Oh Lisa our beautiful Lisa …I don’t even know where to begin. There was never nor will there EVER be someone as incredibly beautiful kind genuine and REAL as Lisa. To experience so many of life’s stages and moments..she was the funnest, giddiest, authentic, loving, caring and LOYAL people you will ever know. She was a phenomenal mother and her relationship with her amazing husband Greg was for the books. they lived life to the fullest – more than anyone I knew – she is irreplaceable and lives on in each of us. Each of her amazing family – aunties cousins friends…I was the luckiest person on earth to have had her for so long and will strive until the day I take my last breath..to be the kind of person she emulated ❤️

Sending our condolences to the Small and Beartusk families. Lisa was a beautiful lady with a beautiful smile. The memory that pops up is her sitting at her Grandma Mabel Small’s house helping her grandma with little projects or eating macaroni and Cheese, Mabel’s famous Mac and Cheese dish. I’m sure your grandparents and cousins were happy to greet you. Prayers for your family, you will definitely be missed. Rest in paradise beautiful lady and give my baby girl hugs.

My wonderful, beautiful, amazing wife. Baylee and Brody’s incredible, loving, thoughtful mother. The hurt will last forever, but so will all the vivid memories. Our love is never ending. Our adventures live on. You are always in our hearts. Though you are gone too soon, I am thankful and grateful that we had a love some never get to experience. I am thankful and grateful that we had such an adventure filled life that most only dream of. I will live the rest of my days with this simple guidance “what would Lisa do”. Love you forever my beautiful bride.
