Lorraine Hilda Minow, 82, went home to be with her savior on November 16, 2016. Lorraine was born in Marsh, Montana, on December 4, 1933, to Lydia Opp and Christian Gaub, the fourth of six children. She attended schools in Fallon and Terry, Montana, graduating from Terry High School in 1952. During her high school years she participated in journalism activities and was a Baton Twirler. Shortly after her graduation from high school she moved to Miles City and worked in the parts department of Saulie-Willey’s; it was while working at Saulie–Willey’s she met William (Bill) Minow of Olive. They became engaged and were married May 3, 1953, and moved to the Minow family ranch in Olive. Lorraine immediately became actively involved in ranch life; she was an excellent cook and her family, as well as the numerous hired ranch help, always enjoyed and appreciated her cooking and baking. Lorraine milked the cows and made homemade butter and cheese from their milk. She baked bread every week and it was a source of pride to her that her family never was served “store-bought” bread; her special Christmas and Easter breads were much anticipated treats. Lorraine was an accomplished seamstress and sewed all of her own clothes, as well as her children’s clothes and every year always sewed an “Easter” and “Christmas” dress for each of her granddaughters. She taught her daughters her sewing skills and served as a 4-H Leader for many years. In later years she turned her seamstress skills into quilting and made handmade quilts for each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lorraine was an avid gardener and took great pride in her yard and flower garden. Lorraine and Bill celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003. Following Bill’s death in 2005, Lorraine moved to Spearfish, South Dakota, where she much enjoyed her retirement, her new friends and her church circle, and served as President for her Homeowner’s Association. Lorraine and her family began a tradition of everyone gathering at her Spearfish home each Thanksgiving and this family time was much anticipated and enjoyed by all her children and grandchildren. Lorraine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City and also attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Broadus and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant granddaughter, her parents, her sister and three brothers. Lorraine is survived by daughters, Julianne (Donn) Randall, Lana Kay (John) Smith and Gaylene (Bill) McMenamy; son, Tom (Amy) Minow; six grandchildren, Amber Smith, Evan (Jordan) Smith, Alicia (Jeremy) Kisling, Troy Randall, Miranda Minow, Kyle Minow; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Harold Gaub, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 20th, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 21st, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City, with interment to follow at Custer County Cemetery. I’m sorry for the loss of your dear loved one, Lorraine, may you find comfort in the God of all comfort, Jehovah, (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) in his word, the bible, in Psalms 34:18: Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit. God’s word, also says in Isaiah: 25:8: He will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces….For Jehovah himself has spoken it. (Psalms 83:18; Titus 1:2) Isaiah 33:24; Revelation 21:3-5; / John 5:28,29; John 11:25,26; Acts 24:14. This is what God’s Kingdom, under Jesus Christ rulership, will accomplish in the near future, for all those who love righteousness. The true God, also promises in his word, in Psalms 37:11,29:..The meek will possess the earth, And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace, 29: The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it. Psalms 104:5; Psalms 115:16; Ecclesiastes 1:4; Job 33:25; Isaiah 35:5,6; Isaiah 65:21,22; Psalms 37:18. (New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures)

All of Lorraine’s family: We were so saddened to hear of the loss of Lorraine. Lorraine was such a wonderful lady. When my mom (Violet) & I were stranded in Spearfish during a March storm, Lorraine opened her home to us. What a wonderful time we had. Even though there was no electricity, there was a full moon that shined off the snow. It was as if it were daylight. We reminisced and had a grand time. It would have been a long night had we been in a motel room. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sad time.
