Lorraine Lund, age 94, of Miles City passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021 in Miles City.
Lorraine was born in Mandan, North Dakota to John and Elsie George. She was raised in Fort Rice, North Dakota on the family farm. She would ride her horse on the open plains and she never lost her love for horses. Lorraine never forgot her early life there and was always a farm girl at heart. She would put a garden in every year, and you could find her out in her garden hoeing or in the kitchen canning what she had grown in her garden. In 1950, Lorraine moved to Miles City where she met her future husband at a card game with friends. They were married three years later, on January 25, 1953. She would often tell people how she was married when it should have been cold, but it was a beautiful day when she and George were married. They had many adventures together, but she said her best adventure was her son Guy. She had two other boys, but they died shortly after birth. Guy had his wife had two sons Travis and Chad; but their marriage didn’t last and Guy received custody of the boys. Lorraine helped raise them and dearly loved them. She would say God took her boys but gave her two wonderful grandsons. Lorraine found out she had a granddaughter Donika and immediately fell in love with her. They both shared a love and passion for horses. Lorraine managed the lunch counter at Woolworths. She tried different careers but her love for cooking always pulled her back to doing that. I’ve heard it said no one could make a better pie than Lorraine. She was still giving out her recipes 3 weeks before she passed away. When her son married Lori, Lorraine made them promise to let her do their wedding cake so at 83 she made her last wedding cake. When Guy and Lori married, she received 5 grandchildren which she cherished and told everyone she now has 8 grandchildren.
Lorraine loved cooking but she also loved to embroidery. She made 100’s of sets of dishtowels and won more ribbons at the fair than I could keep track of. She also liked to knit and every time she would get a new great grandchild, she would knit a blanket for them and she had 13 great grandchildren. She also had one she had a special place in her heart for her great granddaughter Gracie Lang. She had her picture in her room and showed it to everyone that came in. She took great pride in her walking and walked every day, until she could no longer walk. We will dearly miss her but we know she is safe and in God’s hand now.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her sons her parents, her husband George, siblings: Darrell, Evelyn, Clifford, Ladoris Kober, Lavern George, Beverly South, Marilyn South, Leona Spitzer and their spouses and a great granddaughter, Presley Meeks. She is survived by her son Guy (Lori) Lund; grandchildren: Travis and Chad Lund, Donika Schrauger, Brandi (Jeremy) Lang, David (Katie) Froehlich, Amanda Jadamili, Cassie (Nick) Harob, Amber (Dustin) Hodgson, 13 grandchildren; a brother Bill George, Joanne (Cliff) Hodgson and Darlene Fisher and many nieces and nephews.

Guy…Sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. I don’t think we’ve crossed paths since we moved from our house on Cottage over 50 years ago, but I still remember most of the people from those childhood years. I’m sure you and your family have many fond memories of your mom. Even so, it’s always hard to say goodbye.

Guy and Lori Please accept my condolences for the loss of your mother Lorraine. I didn’t know her well, but could tell she had a lot of love in her heart to give. Brandi – I used to babysit you when you were little. You had the most beautiful blonde hair and was such a sweetheart. Lori – I have fond memories of you and think of you often. Guy – I cherish my time spent with you in Lame Deer when I worked for the Census Bureau. You were a tremendous help to me. I know your mother will be missed by generations of family.

Guy, in spite of the fact that your mom lived a long a full life, it is nonetheless hard to bid her adieu. I understand that conundrum from my own experience. My sympathies to you and your family, my friend. Treasure the memories.
