Lorraine Thompson Hough Foth, age 94, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013, at Oakwood Village West nursing home in Madison, Wisconsin.
Lorraine attended church on Sunday and had lunch with family, she became ill with an infection and breathing problems late Sunday and passed away Monday morning. At the time of her passing she was comforted by her daughter and son in law.
Lorraine was born on August 16, 1919, in Ismay, MT, the second born of James and Aletha Hough. She attended and graduated from Ismay High School in Ismay, MT. in 1937. After graduation she and a friend took the train to Minneapolis, MN to beauty culture school. She then went to Onida, SD and opened a beauty shop. It was in Onida that she met a young man from Wisconsin who was a teacher at the high school, Wilbur Foth. They were married on the Hough Ranch, in June, 1939. They then moved to WI. Lorraine and Wilbur had two children, Donald and Gail. In the 1970’s they had an AFS student from Thailand, Kim. After raising their family, when Wilbur retired they moved to Miles City, MT to help Lorraine’s mother Aletha. After Lorraine’s brother passed on they helped Aletha with the Hough Ranch. Lorraine visited her mother every day. For many years Lorraine and her husband were active members of the community. After Wilbur died she stayed in Miles City for 4 years and then decided it was time to be closer to family. She moved to Wisconsin to be closer to her daughter and son in law in 2005.
One of Lorraine’s favorite things in life was her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain the family and friends. She would frequently bring a slice of pie to neighbors. Lorraine was very active in the United Methodist Church in Miles City. She was in there circle and ceramics groups. She was an active member of the Homemakers in Miles City. She her husband loved to garden and she always canned the produce. She entered her pickled beets in the county fair every year and won first prize on several occasions. She loved to play bridge and played until she was 90. A enjoyable pass time for her was knitting. She was very good at this as well and made several Scandinavian sweaters for family members. She was remembered by care givers in Wisconsin by her pleasant smile.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Foth, her brother Marvin Hough, her sister Virginia Kuntz, and her parents James and Aletha Hough. Lorraine is survived by her children Donald (Carol) Foth of Cortez, CO. and Gail (John) Poser of McFarland, WI, her grandchildren, Julie (Dee) Schweigert of Paradise Valley, AZ and their children Amber and Andrew, David (Misti Jo) Foth of Bradenton, FL and their daughter Morgan.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Oakwood Village West 2 floor Hebron Hall nursing home for the love and care that they gave to Lorraine.

Dear Gail,
Please accept my sincere sympathy on the passing of your mom. No matter what the age of a mother when she passes, it is difficult because you have lost “your mom.” I know from having talked to you that you were sooooooooooo kind to her. You certainly were a dedicated daughter. I know that God will bless you for your selfless devotion to your mom.
Please extend my sympathy to your brother, Don, and to his family, too.
I will always have the visual of your mom working at Rainey’s standing by all of the trinkets that we thought were treasures. I am right now just flooded by remembering her there, with of course, her smiling face. Great memories of a wonderful woman!

My sincere condolences to the family of Lorraine Thompson Hough Foth – May you find comfort in your loving memories, beautiful pictures and in recalling the many talents of Mrs. Foth. God has promised that a time will come when no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 24:33). Also I hope you are comforted in knowing that God is “near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves” (Psalm 34:18). Our loving Creator has promised to soon “swallow up death forever…and wipe the tears from all faces.” (Isaiah 25:8) and soon pain and death with be no more (Revelation 21:4). The Paradise that was originally promised for the earth in the Garden of Eden will be fulfilled. I hope that you are comforted by Bible promises of a hopeful future (John 17:3).
