In Memory Of

Lucas Killsnight, age 57, of Lame Deer

August 8, 1967 – May 11, 2025

On August 8, 1967, Hazel Whiteman and Martin Killsnight Jr. welcomed their youngest child Lucas Dale Killsnight, Ve’kesȯhnestoohe “Bird Calling”, who was also a chief’s child. Lucas’ dad Martin was a hereditary chief so he came from the chief society.

Lucas grew up in the Lame Deer area & attended school here. He went on to Job Corp where he met Corina Bird & with that union, he had his daughter Martika & son Julian who he loved dearly. Lucas has a favorite to uncle to his nieces & nephews with his calm demeanor & a witty attitude & was always right there when needed. He always had a funny story but also a very protective spirit. He enjoyed visiting & just hanging around. He always had good advice to share.  He will be missed dearly by all those that loved him. Lucas loved his community & hometown on the Northern Cheyenne reservation. He was a fluent speaker of the Cheyenne language & was very proud of his ancestors. You could see him in town hanging with the park rangers shooting the breeze. He was very comical & always willing to help when needed. He would spend a lot of time with his brother Eric Killsnight Sr. His famous words to him were “I’m around”.

Lucas spent a lot of time taking care of his son Julian after he suffered a serious fall & required more help. Lucas is survived his son Julian and his daughter Martika Killsnight, his grandson, his brother‘s Marvin Sr and Eric Sr Killsnight, his sister Nadine Killsnight. Those that have gone onto the next camp that we’re there to greet him where his parents, his grandparents, his sisters Claudine, Colleen, Event,  his brother Ronnie, his nephew’s Conja and Amos, Dennis (DK), MJ Killsnight, his nieces Naomi, and Heather Killsnight, Angela Whiteman, Shana Redcherries, Hannah Russell, Violet Whiteman, Lavondy Sierra, Cynthia, all his uncles and aunts so you know that was a great reunion for him. It’s hard for us to let him go but we know he’s in a safe and happy place. I know Cheyenne ‘s there’s no goodbye but we will see you again! We send our love as we lay him to rest. May the peace of the Lord be with each and everyone of you because Lucas held a special place in each of our hearts.

Lucas comes from a very large family on both sides of the Killsnight and Whiteman sides. We apologize if we have forgotten anyone but you know who you are to him and that he loved you dearly and just wants to see you smile.

I was saddened to hear of Lucas passing. He was a good brother to Philex. I visited with him several weeks ago at the clinic and he caught me up on his hospital stay and continued heart medication prescription mixups with IHS. I tried to advocate for him but no compromise nor empathy. Soon I heard he was in Billings. I am so sorry for your loss. He has journeyed home and with loved ones. Sincere condolences.
