Lucille Revell died on her 103rd birthday Nov. 12, 2021, in Terry, Montana, of complications from a stroke.
She was born in 1918 at the family homestead near Brockway, Montana, the daughter of Will and Daisy Hubing. Because her birth came one day after the Allied victory in World War One, she was named Lucille Victoria Hubing. News of her birth was conveyed through one of the first primitive telephones, along the fence lines to the Bert Hubing family homestead nearby.
When she was six years old, the family moved to Terry, which seemed a big city to Lucille. From an early age her favorite activity was reading, mostly fiction and poetry. She had three brothers, one of whom broke her arm when she was 10 while practicing boxing. She attended Terry schools, graduating with the class of 1936. Her best friend at school was Beverly Schott, with whom she shared a romantic vision of life and literature, along with a sense of humor. The two of them would go to the cemetery and invent tragic stories about the poor souls who had met untimely deaths, bringing tears to their own eyes. After graduation she went to work as a telephone operator in Terry. In 1940 she moved to Sidney, and subsequently she and two friends moved to Oceanside, California, to join the war effort as telephone operators, living in a government-sponsored converted hotel, tracking American planes down the coast before radar.
In 1946, after the war, she married Floyd Revell in Los Angeles. Ironically, they had grown up about 30 miles apart, but did not meet until adulthood. They soon moved back to Terry and started a family. Their three children, Suzanne, Connie, and Paul, were born there and attended school. Floyd built and ran the R and H Locker Plant, where Lucille also worked, until their retirement in 1977.
Lucille loved card games, playing bridge and pinochle for many years. An avid reader, she served on the library board and belonged to a book club. She was also on the board of both the hospital and the local council on aging and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sacred Heart Altar Society. An intrepid traveler, she enjoyed visiting cities from San Francisco to New York and Washington, D.C.
An extraordinarily good listener, she acted as a second mother to a number of people, some of whom had lost their own mothers. More than one plane traveler, seated next to her, poured out his life story to her. She could recite lengthy poems she had memorized decades earlier, and continued to love poetry throughout her life. She also baked wonderful sweet rolls, fondly remembered by her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers Lee and Gregory Hubing. She is survived by her brother Chuck Hubing; her three children; grandsons Justin and Cyrus Revand; great-grandchildren Giovanna, Sabrina, Cole, and Thomas Revand, numerous nieces and nephews as well as step-grandchildren and their children, and her special friend Eileen Benjamin.

From the time I started school in Terry Montana, I fell in love with this loving and kind lady.
My connection with here
was that she was a Hubing. That family was friends with the Hubing
Family and they were neighbors to the Charles Nagel family at Circle, Montana.
What a beautiful soul!
My condolences to her family!

Connie, Suzanne, Paul and families – so sorry for your loss. I didn’t know her well until she started coming to book club at the library. What an amazing addition she was. Her life experiences always brought a new perspective to our conversations. I will miss her so much. Sending thoughts and prayers during this difficult time
Lon and Vicki Reukauf says
Suzanne, Connie and Paul, our hearts are so very sad to hear of Lucille’s passing. Lon is so appreciative he got to room with Floyd and Lucille during high school. We appreciated her historical perspective of her life that she shared. It’s one thing to hear about our community’s history, but another to get to visit with someone who lived it. Lon will also miss the book recommendations Lucille gave him and getting to visit with her about them. We will fondly remember her good sense of humor and chuckles.

I feel as though I’ve known your mother for many years, although I never met her. The stories you’ve shared and who you are as a person, Connie, reflect the incredible woman she was. Her intelligence, curiosity, and deep thinking will continue on through you, your children, your grandchildren and their’s. Grant and my deepest sympathies go out to your family.
Barbara Kaplan says
Lucille was sui generis. I’m honored to have known her and privileged to have enjoyed her company over many years. She had a disarming kindness, sprinkled with dry wit and strong opinions. Discussions about life ran the gamut from her broad perspective, her deep curiosity and her inherent charm. My loving thoughts are with Suzanne, Connie and Paul.
Patricia(Roos) Dobrowski says

What a wonderful lady your mom was. I was one of those that she acted as second mother to.I stayed with my Grandma Roos to go to school in Terry. Revells house was just next door to Grandma’s and Lucille really was my “Terry mom”. I have many pleasant memories of spending time at the Revells. God Rest her soul.

I met Lucille through Chuck. Such a fun & delightful lady. She will certainly be missed in the community. My condolences to you all.
Suzanne Harris says
I never had the pleasure of meeting Lucille in person, but did get to “know” her through her daughter, Suzanne. In the 50+ years we’ve been friends, I heard quite a few stories of Lucille’s
life and doings in Terry Montana. As a native New Yorker, it was fascinating for me to hear about Lucille’s small town and the enormous part she played in it. I know she loved all of her big family, and cherished their frequent get-togethers. She lived a long, fulfilled life and touched many people. Condolences to all of Lucille’s friends and family, may God bless and keep you.
Pam Schlotter says
Oh how I will miss her❤️ If we weren’t at her house, she was at ours, at least once a day. Pinochle, divinity, baby food jar Christmas trees, trying new baked good recipes or the tried and true, visiting. And always lots of love and laughter. She was a cross between an aunt and a grandma to Amy and I. So many memories❤️
Paul, Suzanne, Connie, Justin and Cyrus, you know how blessed you were to have her so long. It’s never long enough for those left behind. She is no longer suffering and that is a blessing. Much love to you all.
Dave and Diedree Hess (Ban) says
I can remember when I was a little girl stopping by the locker with my parents(Ivan and Hattie Ban) to pick up frozen meat for the week as back then we had no freezer or electricity. So I’ve known your Mom for many years.
I can remember working with her at bake sales for the Altar Society and enjoyed her company and stories when she subbed for our pinochle club. your Mom was a very special lady and will be missed by many in the Terry community.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
