Hysham Montana native, Lucille K Van Hemelryck, 83, died October 27 at River Stone Hospice Home in Billings, Montana. She was born July 26, 1930 to Carroll (CV) and Frances Kimball in Miles City, Montana. She attended grade school at Rancher School in Pease Bottom, graduated from Hysham High School and received her teaching certificate from Eastern Montana College in Billings in 1950. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Van Hemelryck in 1950, and settled into her life as a wife and mother. Bob and Lucille raised 4 children, Myles, Martin, Dennis, & Julie at the family’s farm and ranch near Hysham. In 1978, Bob and Lucille moved to town, eventually living in and fixing up the home built by JC Lyndes in the late 1800s. Lucille was very involved with St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, serving many years as the bookkeeper. She loved working outside in her garden and flower beds, maintaining a very large yard for many years by herself. She took great pride in everything she grew, passing on her wisdom and love of gardening to her children.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Bob, brothers Keith & Edward Kimball, sister Marion Martin, and her parents. She is survived by her sons Myles (Judi) of Helena, Martin (Sally), and Dennis (and the late Debra) Van Hemelryck of Hysham and daughter Julie (Chris) Susemihl of Grand Junction, Colorado. Lucille has 7 grandchildren and 7 (almost 8) great-grandchildren.

Myles gave me a stack of letters from Lucille’s attic. My Dad (Eddie) wrote home to their “Folks” when he in WWII. In one letter he said: “I heard Lucille is making a new dress for her formal. Tell her to save me a dance for when I get home”. Dad was about 24 yrs and Lucille was 15 yrs. It gave me a glimpse into time when they were simply a brother and a sister who loved each other. I’m sure they are dancing now in heaven. Thinking of you all this weekend.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Lucille K Van Hemelryck – I am sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in many beautiful memories of Mrs. Van Hemelryck at this difficult time. The promise of Paradise, the perfect conditions God originally intended for mankind in the Garden of Eden will be fulfilled including God’s “will being done as in Heaven also upon Earth” (Matt 6:9, 10). Also we have the hope of being with our loved ones when they are resurrected (John 5:28-29). I hope that you are comforted by the many wonderful Bible promises (John 17:3).

We were blessed to have enjoyed Lucille as a friend. She was devoted to her Lord, her family, and her beautiful yard. Her greatest dream was to join Bob in her heavenly home and I know for certain that she is there. May The Lord ease the pain of Lucille’s passing by wrapping you in his loving arms and giving you comfort.
David & Colette & family says
Please know how much we are all thinking of you. We hope you find great comfort in having everyone around you. When we lost Mom & Dad last month it was family, friends and sharing every great memory and funny story we had that got us through this tough time. We have so many great memories (& funny stories!) that include both your Mom & Dad. Laughter is a very healing thing and helps in genuinely celebrating their lives.
Love,
David & Colette (Kimball) & family

What a loving and thoughtful tribute to her to have donations go to an organization she loved so much.

Come to find out that I had worked with Sally and went to college with Julie. Its a small world and we are blessed to have had an opportunity to have known Lucille.
