Lucy went home to her heavenly father Friday, June 11, 2004 at the age of 86 years 9 months and 15 days, surrounded by her loving family.
Lucy Ellen James was born September 27, 1917 in Marble City, Oklahoma to William Cyrus and Vertia Mae (Peters) James. She was raised and educated in Marble City, Oklahoma. Upon ending her schooling, Lucy married Herman Rutledge on January 8, 1934. The couple started their family in Marble City, but moved to Paso Robles, California, where they made their home. She was saddened by the death of her first husband in 1972. She moved to Silver City, New Mexico, in 1984. This is where she met her second husband, Lee. Lucy and Lee were married April 20, 1990 in Silver City, New Mexico. They traveled extensively together, finally making their home in Canon City, Colorado in the mid 1990s. Lee died in 1995 and shortly thereafter Lucy moved to Gillette where she has resided since.
Lucy was known as a fine seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting gifts for family and friends. She was an exceptional cook and loved to can and preserve foods. Some of her favorite activities were traveling to visit family and reading. She loved her Church family and enjoyed the fellowship with them.
Lucy is survived by six daughters: Lou Merrill of Nixa MO, Rosalind Ashcraft, Frances England and husband Victor of Gillette, Wilma Hays and husband Harlan of Lindsborg, Kansas, Kathleen Rutledge of Galveston, Texas, Vicki Rohr and husband John of Fallon, Nevada; one son Herbert Rutledge and wife Denise of Dayton, Nevada; 23 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband's; a son, Luehen Rutledge; three brothers and two sisters.
