On November 30th 2021, at approx. 2:30 am in the Riverstone Hospital mene’e’e has ended her footprints. She is now rejoicing with her family that has gone on before her.
She was born in the winter in a log cabin in Lame Deer, MT to Julia and Charles Whitedirt. She eventually was the oldest sibling of eight Leona Littlewolf, Patrick Whitedirt Sr, Mary Walkslast, Lucy Littlewhiteman, Gilbert Whitedirt, Imogene Dewey, and Lena Sooktis. Mene’e’e was raised by her aunt and in her younger years she was breaking horses, helping around the ranch, eventually when she was old enough to start school. She was then sent to Mission Boarding School in Ashland, MT with Leona and Pat.
Later on when she was able to work she started at Guilds arts and craft, then she went on to be a labor at Dull Knife, after that she went off to work at The Mission in Ashland sorting mail and in the jewelry department, then she ended with working for Mother goose Daycare in Lame Deer. She also made moccasins, and cradleboards for members of the community.
She then went onto explore the world, in her journeys she later then met her significant other(s) where she was blessed with her first child a baby girl named Linda Lou, then came Farley Dean, Bonnie Belle, Elrena, Maynard, Jacqueline, and the baby Herbie Joseph. Also her adopted children John Charette Jr (Debbie), Clara Harris, Theda Foote, and Patricia Brady (Limpy), Joe Martinez and Perry Lilly from wolf point.
Mae’s favorite things to do was go garage saling, doing crossword books, making blankets, making dolls, staring out the window watching cars go by, she really loved to visit. Especially when her neighbor Eva Bearchum would come stop by for a cup of tea. She also loved to go sit up town and stare at everybody either in Lame Deer, or Billings. She was a highly regarded fluent speaker of the Cheyenne Language.
In her later years she became a grandmother to her first grandchild Johnny Whitedirt. Then came Marlin Whitedirt (Lynette), Baby Gilbert, Ledeana Kaye, Ronald Dean, Chester, Stella Jean (Pete), Desirae and Desmona, Deon Jayce, Karico, Brandon Lee, Sharee Noel (John), Shanae, Kayla Jo, Charles, Maynard James and Farley Dean. Aunty Mae: you are going to be missed. Thank you for all the crazy memories. You was a joy to have around. There was never a dull moment with you. I will cherish all the memories we had together. I’m sure that your baby sister Lena, is happy to see you. Even tho, I would rather have you here with me, (I am not going to be selfish), journey well, and like we always say- don’t look back. If I was granted one wish in this crazy world of ours, my one wish would be, for the creator to have phone, so I can call you and my mom and my dad and grandpa and grandma….i’m going to miss you so much….(tears)…. 🙁
