Margaret (Peggy) Murphy ODaniel Halvorson, age 88, of Miles City passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care.
She was still feisty until the end and never lost her sense of humor and was singing songs for the grandkids up to the end from her vast song repertoire.
Peggy was born May 14, 1921 in Brainerd, MN. She moved with her family to Bemidji, MN and then to Miles City where she attended Sacred Heart convent school. She was very musical and was a singer/ musician in the Pop Conkright band, performing locally and on the radio. In 1940 she married Frank ODaniel and lived and worked on the ranch near Volborg. She had two sons, Pat Murphy and Jerry ODaniel. Peggy married Alvin Halvorson in 1968 in Forsyth and later they moved back to Miles City., where she spent the rest of her years. Peggy was a hard working woman and had various jobs including Montgomery Ward, waitress, HRH cafeteria, candling eggs and ranch work. Peggy also enjoyed running 1007 T-shirt Designs for many years. She was proud to tell you she got a job at age 75, working at Hardees as a hostess! Peggy was a character who loved to make people laugh, often wearing two different earrings just for a conversation piece. She loved her singing, her dogs, her family and everyone she met. She especially enjoyed all her times at the 600 Cafe visiting with everyone she knew & didn't know. No one was a stranger. Peggy could always be seen driving her red Ford ranger or heard playing the songs on that horn. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially attending all their school sports and activities and making sure they knew she was there. Peggy was a member of Sacred Heart Church and volunteered for RSVP before her health worsened.
Peggy is survived by her sons Pat (Nancy) Murphy of Mesa, AZ and Jerry (Susan) ODaniel of Miles City, MT; her grandchildren: Heather ODaniel of Tulsa OK and Sean ODaniel of Las Vegas, NV; Mike (Sherry) Murphy of Hurricane, WV; Teresa (Dennis) Couch, Brian (Sonja) Murphy & Tim (Deanna) Murphy all of Mesa, AZ and Sheryl Renee (Dean) Gibson of Heyburn, ID; great grandchildren Tiffany Trout, Stacy, Cyprian, Jacob & Addison Murphy, Matthew Dean & Patrick Joseph Gibson & special friends Warren & Dianne Webster. She is also survived by nieces: Marian Severson, Denise Ocycechowski & Bunny Llanes, nephew Robert Nelson and many great nieces & nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Clement Thomas & Harriet Agnes Murphy, her brother John Murphy and her sister Loretta Nelson and husband, Alvin Halvorson.
