Margie Phipps, age 79 of Brusett, Montana passed away in Billings, Montana on July 7, 2021, surrounded by her family just two days short of her 80th birthday.
Margie was born on July 9, 1941, to John and Shirley Ryan, joining her sister Elva. After Margie, her sisters Nora Lou, Sharon, and Shirley K. “Jo” joined the family. She grew up on the family ranch at Brusett. Margie attended Squaw Creek Country School and Garfield County High School graduating in 1958. After high school Margie attended Eastern Montana College in Billings earning a two-year teaching certificate. After college she returned to Garfield County, teaching school. Margie and Robert “Bobby” Phipps were married on June 3, 1962.
Bobby and Margie made their home on the ranch on Lone Tree Creek southeast of Brusett. Bobby and Margie were blessed with 8 children: Katrina, Myrna, Tim, Rex, Aaron, Bryan, James and Shirley. Their Nephew, Ted Phipps, and Bobby’s brother Roy Phipps also spent several years with them on the ranch. Over the years many other nieces and nephews also spent time with them on the ranch. Anyone who stopped by was always welcome to stay for a meal and a visit which many times included a dessert of angel food cake. Margie was especially proud all her children obtained college degrees.
In early 2002, Bobby was diagnosed with cancer; he passed away on Thanksgiving Day 2002 with Margie and his family by his side. A few years later Margie retired and sold the ranch to her son Bryan and his wife Chelsea. She continued to live on the ranch full time until last winter. In the fall of 2020, she bought a house in Jordan and split her time between there and the ranch.
Margie was a 4-H leader for many years and served on the Garfield County Fair Board from 2000 to 2011. She rarely missed attending the Garfield County fair and entering exhibits. Margie was a member of Community Presbyterian Church and Blackfoot Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed meals and fellowship at the Garfield County Senior Center and always looked forward to bible study.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bobby” Phipps, her son James Phipps, her parents John and Shirley Ryan, her stepmother Agnes Ryan, and her sister Nora Lou Kreitel.
She is survived by her daughter Katrina (George) Luther, her daughter Myrna (Michael) Haughian; her son Tim (Dana) Phipps; her son Rex (Kim) Phipps; her son Aaron (Mollie) Phipps; her son Bryan (Chelsea) Phipps; her daughter Shirley (Darrell) Dyer; her grandchildren, Trevor Luther, Travis Luther, Ryan Haughian, Kyle Haughian, Amy Haughian, Walt (Courtney) Phipps, Cory (Melanie) Phipps, Evan Phipps, Will Phipps, Robert Phipps, Michael Phipps, Gracie Phipps, Teagan Phipps, Justine Dyer and Darrell “LD” Dyer, her sister Elva (Clifford) Highland, her sister Sharon (Rocky) Nelson, her sister Jo Ryan and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

I am so sorry to hear that Margie is no longer with us. She was such a special lady with a big heart and a gentle laugh. I have really enjoyed getting to know her at Bible study. I will never forget her smile every time one of her kids or grandkids was mentioned. Although it is a comfort to know she is home with Jesus, it doesn’t take away the pain of her loss. She will be greatly missed.

The Phipps’ Family has always been the stone and mortar of my childhood when we were splitting time between North Dakota and Montana in the Summertime.
Bobby and Margie, along with all of the Phipps’ Family, have welcomed and treated my Mom and Dad, brother, me, and friends with an open door, kindness, comfort and friendship throughout the years.
Margie was timely each year sending a Christmas Card or a Thank You Note by card usually, just to let us know how she was fairing more recently —- was always nice to get good news. She and Bobby raised some very remarkable folks and was deservingly proud because this bunch is truly honest, caring, hard working and humble in all of their actions.
Heaven will be a better place with Margie there. My heart is with you and will always cherish and remember the good times, good laughs and those excellent meals that we all sat down and blessed.
