Maria Rose Shoulderblade, mother, daughter, sister, Auntie, and grandmother, made her journey early Saturday morning, April 23, 2016. Her Cheyenne name was: “Motovahe’e, Buffalo Calf Woman, named after her Aunt Barbara Bement, she also has a Lakota Indian name, “Cante Waste’ Yuha Mani Win” Walks with a Good Heart Woman, given to her by her grandmother Isabelle Red Cloud, in South Dakota.Maria was born January 23, 1974, in Crow Agency to Vincent Shoulderblade and Dolores Lodge, She grew up in Lame Deer and attended Lame Deer Public Schools. There she met her husband, Vann Ryan Jr, from this union; they had Vanna, Ivan, Vann III, Javan, and Nathaniel Vincent who went to Heaven, shortly after birth. Maria is survived by her Special Friend, Benno Big Back, children: Vanna (Andrew), Ivan & Javan, all of the family home,Vann III (Josie) of Busby,Corey (Shannara)Spotted Elk of Billings Mt, Van Ryan, Jr, who remained a friend and in their children’s lives. Her mother, Dolores of Lame Deer, sisters, Quinndalyn of Glasgow, Mt., Janelle(Brian) Jones, Stella(Damson) Ortega, Brothers: Eugene (Marcie)of LaJunta, Co. Tony ( Jeana),Ben (Sarah), Eric Timber(Brenda), Colstrip, Ivey Timber,Pascal Littleoldman (Sarah) Jonathan Limpy,(Theresa), Merlin Limpy (Cheryl) Clifford Limpy Jr, Queens, New York. Nephews and nieces include: Lance Shoulderblade, Latrell & Jalen American Horse, Reality Shoulderblade, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Damion Cheney, Anthony Shoulderblade Jr., Keith, Ashodiah Aalyias, Her grandson, Nathaniel Vincent Medicine Bull, Her Neices: Seran Shoulderblade,LaJunta, Co, Raquel, Antonia, Anbraya Shoulderblade, Mya and Shantell Cheney.Her Aunts: Marcelline, Rita, Mary, Magoo Shoulderblade, Gloria Goggles of Ethete, WY, Barbara Bement, Wilma Two Moons, Shirley, Annette and Esther and Serena Brady, Irene Flying. Uncles, Gary Goggles, Don Shoulderblade, Reginald Killsnight, Dominic Running Hawk, Henry Lodge of Pine Ridge, Calvin Brady and her Grandmother Fern Shoulderblade. Maria came from a traditional family and was taught at an early age to respect others and to be humble. She believed in traditional ceremonies and was very honored when her dad came into a ceremony to pray for her. She was a traditional dancer and later switched to jingle dress dancing, winning at many different pow wows. Tragically, her dancing years came to a halt when she was diagnosed with kidney disease. She had been on the transplant list. Maria enjoyed pow wows and attending handgames where she became friends with many Crow fellow handgamers. Any time there was a handgame tournament going on you could be certain she would be sitting on the sidelines cheering her team on. She loved cruising the hills on the rez and hunting with her boys. She encouraged all of her children to finish high school and was supportive of Higher Education. Her friends remember her by her kindness and the way she always helped others. Maria will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Maria was preceded in death by her baby son Nathaniel, her father, Vincent “Buffalo” Shoulderblade, sister Vincynthia, Aunt Kathryn Shoulderblade, Grandmothers Annie Bixby Shoulderblade, Virginia Lodge, Grandfathers, Thomas Shoulderblade, Pete Lodge. Heavens Gates opened wide and her sister Vincynthia greeted her with open arms. Maria’s extended family includes Shoulderblades, Ryans, Lodges, Goggles Running Hawks, Seminoles, Bradys, Kingfishers, Bements, Rowlands, Bixbys, Pretty Boys, Limpys, Ortegas, Jones, Clubfootes, Littleoldmans.

I am so sorry about Maria , she was my student in the 4th or 5th grade, she was a very happy bright, girl. Always helpful, always the first in line to do anything that needed to be done.
Needless to say, she was my favorite student. I never got to know her when she was all grown up. I am sure she never changed, I will always remember her as she was.
As hard as it is at this time of sorrow, remember, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and you have a hope of seeing her again someday.
