Marie Bigback Brady, 60 of Busby Returned home to heaven April 13, 2018. Hoto Peheeva’e “Buffalo-Robe Woman” was born March 11, 1958 in Crow Agency, a daughter of Robert Bigback, Sr. and Gladys Mae Hadley Bigback. She was proud of her Native American Heritage having Indian Blood from the Northern Cheyenne, Sioux, Kiowa and Apache Nations. She was a direct descendent of Geronimo, an Apache war chief, Rising Sun a warrior who fought Custer and Red Sleeve Panther a warrior who fought at Sand Creek. In 1964 Marie’s mother, Gladys Mae Hadley Bigback passed away and she was raised by Lee and Gladys Old Mouse along with her brother Ronald Bigback, Sr., sisters, Maria Russel-Bigfire and Loretha Grinsell at the red log house in Busby. Marie attended school at Busby Boarding School and graduated high school in 1976.
Marie loved her family very much; she had her first born daughter Wilburta Bigback and soon after she met the love of her life, Calvin Brady, Sr. From this union they had RC Brady, Jenna (Laymond Brien), Irena (Caleb Cummins) and Byron (Silver) Brady. Her family grew even more as did her love for all her grandchildren; they were all her pride and joy; Lanaya, Lathias, Laymond Jr., Laesyn, Laeyonna, Nyleena, Nariah, Winter, Liah, Patrick, Alan Jr. and Jared. Marie loved to prepare and cook delicious meals for her family and she was often found visiting on the phone with family and friends, she was encouraging and always left others smiling or with laughter. Marie was a member of the Mennonite Church and believed strongly in the power of prayer.
Marie lived in several different towns while raising her children. She had a home in Kamiah, Idaho, Owyhee Nevada, Ft. Washakie, Wyoming and the Hopi Reservation. Marie and her family moved back to Busby, Montana in 1994 and there they made their permanent home. Marie had a strong work ethic and held various jobs in the Northern Cheyenne Community, she worked at the prose cution office, and she was the assistant director for the Commodity Program in Lame Deer. Marie also worked for the Hardin School District.
We cannot say enough about the beautiful life of our wife, mom, grandma, auntie, sister, she was kind and generous. She always found ways to help those around her and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. It is not good bye, we will see her again someday, until then we will remember her every day and carry her in our hearts. She is now one of our angels that will watch over us.
