Marie D. (Olfert) Unrau, age 100, died of natural causes, on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at Valley View Home in Glasgow, MT. Marie was born in Butterfield, MN to Dietrich and Maria (Harder) Olfert on November 13, 1906. Marie attended grade school in Mountain Lake, MN until she started helping care for the neighbors children. She later moved to Lustre, MT where she worked with her brothers until she married.Marie married David D. Unrau in Mountain Lake on March 29, 1934. They made their home in Lustre, MT where they raised their family and had a dairy farm and also farmed until 1976.
Marie was baptized August 22, 1920 in Mountain Lake. She was involved in various church activities beginning as an Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Sunday School teacher. She became a charter member of the Wolf Point Gideons Auxiliary, beginning in 1950s. She was very dedicated to the work of the Gideons and her church.Marie enjoyed reading the Bible and later, as she was no longer able to read, she spent many hours praying for her family. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and entertaining guests and she always served dessert!
In 2001 Marie entered Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow where she was well loved and cared for. Marie was voted Valley View Harvest Queen in 2004.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband, David January 28, 2000; five brothers, David, Dietrich, Abe, John and Henry; three sisters, Katherine, Elizabeth and Annie; one son-in-law, Dan Chambers; one granddaughter, Jennifer; and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by three sons; Eldon (Elaine) Unrau ,Arden (Darlene) Unrau and Gerald (Bonnie) Unrau, all of Lustre; two daughters, Florence Chambers of East Amherst, N.Y. and Marian (Donald) Kirk of Fairbanks, AK; nine grandchildren, Kristine (Tom) Tolzien of Gilette, WY, Rebecca (Jeffrey) Henckel of Billings, MT, Cindy Unrau ofMissoula, MT, Melissa (Dave) Kujala of Puyallup, WA, Bethany (Kevin) Hunt of Kent, WA, Nora (Mike) Matlosz of Tyrone, GA, Rachel Unrau of Bozeman, MT, Matthew Unrau of Missoula, MT, Ann (Brandon) Dianoski of Fairbanks; and nine great grandchildren, Reese, Zachary and Kaitlyn Tolzien; Jessica Henckel; Andrew, Conner and Alexis Hunt; Cayden Kujala and James White.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 2:00 PM at EMB Church in Lustre with Rev. John Skillman officiating. Burial will be at the Lustre EMB Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 2, 2007 from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel, Wolf Point, MT. A family service will follow at 7:00 PM at the EMB Church.
