Marie J. Soennichsen, age 81, of Miles City passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.
On July 13, 1935 Marie Jeanette was delivered by her grandmother in Bascom, Montana to Harold and Pearl (Eaton) Schroeder. She was the oldest of four sisters. She grew up between the ranch southwest of Sumatra (“the pines”) with her sheep dog, horse Dolly running cattle, sheep and irrigation. She stayed with Aunt Adela and Uncle Iver Hjelvik and her eight cousins in Melstone and at the Musselshell River place. Sometime she would jump the train to her grandparents in Bundy. She attended schools in Sumatra and Melstone and she went to college for nursing in Miles City and later onto Vo-Tech in Great Falls. On September 4, 1955, she married her husband of 23 years, Seigfred “Freddie” Soennichsen. Together they raised four children with an amazing amount of patience. She took them to and participated with them in Sunday School, church, scouts, baseball, hunting, camping and ice skating too. The family moved a lot while Freddie was stationed in Tucson, Arizona, Guam, Glasgow AFB, Fairchild AFB, Great Falls and retiring to Lewistown where Marie met her dear friend Nina. Settling there, they once again had a milk cow, bum calves, lambs, mean old Cropy, chickens, rabbits, cats and dogs. She worked at Big Sky Meat Locker and Big Sky Laundry. She worked as a secretary for the Federal Employment Security Division in Helena and 20 years as a very caring nurse’s aide. Marie liked to move a lot living in Miles City, Billings, Laurel, Absarokee, Red Lodge, Rosebud and Forsyth.
Marie was wonderful at sewing, crocheting, gardening, canning, baking cinnamon rolls and bread. Marie loved music and her accordion.
Marie is survived by her children: Jalona “Joly” Boheman of Rosebud, MT; Tommy Soennichsen of Lewistown, MT; Lisa (Rod) Mogen of Rosebud, MT; and Freddie Soennichsen of Miles City, MT; two sisters: Jeanette Kowallis and Camy Walter; thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two more on the way; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Susan Schulz and a niece Cristy Webb.

So sorry to see Marie passed away. I knew her years ago at the VA and never knew where they went when they left Miles City.
She was a very nice lady. The family is in our thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace. Linda (Valley) and Richard Meidinger.
Williams Family says
We are saddened to learn that you’re mourning the loss of your dear love one. However, it saddens our God even more. No doubt, you have many fond memories which will resurface from time to time. And because you do have memories, certainly shows that almighty God has memories as well. Therefore, with full confidence you can take comfort in knowing that he longs to restore perfect life to all those in his memory (Job 14:13-15; Rev 21:3, 4). Please accept our condolences at this most distressing time.
Karen Krausz says
