Marjorie Richards

Visitation: Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson Sons Funeral Home in Broadus.

Funeral Service: Friday, January 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus.

Interment: Valley View Cemetery.

Marjorie Olive Richards, age 81, of Broadus, Montana passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus.

Marj was born in Stapleton, Nebraska on August 24, 1927, the daughter of Oma and Auzzie Richards, the 13th child of 15. She attended school in Stapleton until she was fifteen years old, then she moved to Montana with her parents where she met her soon to be husband Archie Lee Richards. On October 28, 1944, Marjorie and Archie Richards were united in marriage in Broadus, Montana. To this union six children were born, four boys and two girls. They lived in the Boyes and Hammond area until 1947 then moved to Belle Fourche, South Dakota until 1951 when they moved to Fort Pierce, South Dakota and on to Purdum, Nebraska where they operated a ranch for several years. Marj and her family moved to Broadus in 1965 and she operated the Powder River Lanes Cafe for 8 years. Marj and Archie drove school bus for more than 25 years before retiring. Marj loved driving the bus for the school children and at Christmas time she would make homemade candy and cookies for all the children.

Marj loved playing music, especially playing her piano, organ and keyboard. She especially enjoyed playing music with Archie and her friends throughout the community for dances and she also played for the residents at the Powder River Manor where she was a volunteer. Her family and friends like listening and dancing to the music. Marj enjoyed playing cards with her card club ladies and family and was an avid bowler for many years, attending State Tournament with her teams. She enjoyed staying up late putting puzzles together then she would display them as pictures. She did woodworking, making picture frames for her puzzles and several on displayed at the Homestead Inn Cafe. One of her very favorite things was decorating the outside of her house with lots and lots of Christmas lights, winning the yearly Christmas decorating contest numerous times. Another pastime she enjoyed for years was her flower and vegetable gardens and sewing for her children and husband. Marj loved attending family events, reunions, spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marj is survived by four sons: Johnny (Susan) Richards of Broadus, MT; Kenneth Richards of Houston, TX; Jerry (Terrie) Richards ofCA; and Larry (Jody) Richards of Billings, MT; one daughter, Helen (Frank) Glidden of Taylor, NE; a daughter-in-law, Julie Richards of St. Paul, MN; a brother, Virgil (Margaret) Richards of Hamilton, MT; a sister, Cuba Eastwood of Callaway, NE; a brother-in-law, John (Jean) Richards and a sister-in-law, Velna (Richards) Traub all of Broadus, MT; eighteen grandchildren and thirty four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 8 brothers, 4 sisters, her husband Archie, a daughter Margaret Peggy Ann, one granddaughter and one great grandson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Valley View Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Powder River Manor for the Room Renovation Fund.
