The guy I knew was a great person. He did the
cartoons and drawings for the Signal Butte when we were in CCHS and later did the art work and photos for the Miles City Star. He did the art work for some of the posters for the local Rock bands in the 60’s, but something one might not know…. Mark was in Miles City’s first Boy Band. Yea that’s right Boy Band. The group was formed as a club when we were pre high school and it consisted of a quartet and sometimes an extra member. We named the “Club”, The Woodchucks. We wanted something that was different than the Scouts even though most of us had belonged to them in the past. We even performed at the EAGLES hall for a Christmas program with Mom Konkright on the piano. God rest old friend.

P.S. Anyone else want to admit belonging to that great singing group? Maybe we will all get together again someday. Joe

Just Sunday night, I was having dinner with my sister (Dotty Watts) and brother (Dave Anderson)in Livingston. We had Pacos (always a favorite)and were talking about Mark and all his contributions to the Miles City scene. I used to work with him at the Star, too. He will be missed–and long remembered. My thoughts are with you, Lynn. Berta

I can’t remember a time I didn’t know Mark…as a kid he wowed me with his photography and as an adult an amazing sense of humor. I still enjoy his photography when I dine at the Montana Steak House. Miles City will miss him.

I will always remember Mark’s contagious smile. Especially when he had mischief on his mind! He was a kind soul, with a quiet demeanor. May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in the celebration of his life during this hard time.

Mark was a strong, positive influence on me when I started in journalism. He was a subtle and sophisticated teacher to a naive high school and college student trying to find his way around a newsroom. He taught me much about photography and survival in journalism, especially by his example. He was humble enough to understand how a photographer should work with a reporter in creating a good story — a quality that I’ve since learned was truly rare. He often made unsolicited helpful suggestions about both my work and my demeanor. I often think of him in the rodeo or Bucking Horse Sale arena carrying the heavy Hasselblad, getting a shot and heading for the fence. I also appreciated meeting his wonderful family. My prayers are with you.

I always appreciated Mark’s sense of humor, not to mention the food at the Pistol. This is a great loss for all.

I first met Mark when I worked for the Star (1964-1969) and he was one of my favorite people — always made me laugh and even took a couple of good pictures of me.
