Martha L. Haveman-Boehm, age 93, of Hysham passed away on June 12, 2004 at the Hardin Hospital in Hardin.
Martha was born the daughter of John L. and Ella (Wilson) Hollowell, on September 10, 1910 in Vinegar Hill, IL. At the age of three, Martha moved with her family to Montana where her parents homesteaded. She attended country schools in the area until entering high school in Hysham where she graduated in 1929. Following her graduation, Martha married Louis Haveman. To this marriage, six children were born. Louis and Martha made their home on the ranch near Myers. In 1945, Louis passed away. Following his death Martha continued the operation of their ranch. On March 11, 1953 she married Arthur Boehm. Together, they continued to operate and oversee the ranch until they moved to Hardin due to failing health.Martha was a member of the board of directors for several years as well as the President of the Froze to Death Grazing District. She enjoyed walking, picking berries, baking bread and pies, playing cards and winning, as well as embroidering. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting with her friends and neighbors.
She is survived by one son; Jay Haveman and his wife Marlene of Seeley Lake, MT, two daughters; Virginia May of Sarpy Creek, Kay Sitton and her husband George of Livingston, MT, one step daughter Connie Bolton and her husband Bill of Miles City, two sisters Mary Anne Patterson of Hysham, Betty Mortenson and her husband Doane of Howard, SD, one brother Jack Hollowell of Miles City, one sister-in-law Emma Hollowell of Hysham, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband's Louis, and Arthur, two sons Frank and David Haveman, one daughter Shirley Ann, her granddaughter Monica Redland, one son-in-law Charles May, two brothers Gene and Bob Hollowell and two sisters Lela Stadt and Helen Spilde.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 2:00 PM in the St. Josephs Catholic Church in Hysham. Burial will be in the Rancher Cemetery west of Hysham. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Memorials can be made to a charity of one's choice.
