Interment: Pioneer Cemetery
Martha (Vollmer) Hinther, age 92, of Jordan, passed on to eternal life to join her husband, Fred, and son, Daryl, on May 19, 2009 at Garfield County Nursing Home after battling an extended illness. She left this world of pain to begin a new life free of suffering and toil surrounded by her devoted family and friends who look forward to joining her someday in that world of bliss.
Martha was born April 20, 1917 in Tuttle, N.D. to John and Louise Vollmer. She was the oldest of 11 children. Being the oldest she was deprived the opportunity of a formal education, as it fell upon her to take care of her brothers and sisters. But as often happens, this experience was far more valuable that what she could have learned in school.
Martha met Fred Hinther during a trip he made to North Dakota and they were married in Steele, N.D. on Sept. 25, 1937. From this union they were blessed with 5 children, Elaine, Marion, Leila, Leroy, and Daryl. Martha spent most all of her life in the profession she had learned from an early age, being a homemaker and mother. After raising, nurturing, and sending her children into the world, Martha and her cousin, Erna Schwindt, spent many years cleaning and painting houses, until her health prevented her from doing this.
Marthas greatest loves and satisfactions were her home, family, cooking, church, and crocheting. She was well known for her cooking of German food and for her crocheting. She loved planning and preparing a favorite meal for family and friends who would come to visit. But, her greatest love of all was that of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. And it was evident with the pictures of them all over her house.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters, and her husband, Fred, and her son Daryl.
She is survived by her children; Elaine (George) FitzGerald, Marion (Lloyd) Rowton, Leila (Monte) Massar, Leroy (Mary) Hinther, daughter-in-law Elayne (Daryl) Hinther, plus 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 1 great-great step grandchild, and 2 grandcats. All who knew and loved her will miss her and her little smile greatly.
