Our momma, Martha Soria – passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, September 19, 2023, at Canyon Creek Memory Care, in Billings, MT. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Martha L. Soria was born on a beautiful July summer day, July 29, 1938, to Mr. Pedro and Manuela Lopez in Forsyth, MT. She is survived by her devoted husband, Manuel Soria. He said he first saw our momma one winter on the corner of the street carrying a heavy bucket full of lard. He could tell from afar the bucket was heavy. He said her body was lopsided, one arm longer than the other. He ran over to her and carried the bucket home for her. And that’s all it took!
Momma is also survived by her four children – Stephen L. Soria, Great Falls; Annette Soria, Miles City; Theresa Bishop, Billings; and Daniel Soria (Bev) Billings; eight grandchildren – Daniel Soria, Trisha Bishop, Stephanie Brown (Dustin), Sara Bennett (Bryce), Ryan Soria, Ryder Vukasin, Aaron Soria and Dominic Ruffato and eight great grandchildren – Dawson Bancroft, Ethan Brown, Faith Bennett (✝️), Carter Brown, Lillian Bennett, Oliver Bennett, Katherine Bennett and Maddox Brown; her brother, Pete Lopez (Los Angeles), her sister, Virginia Perez (South San Francisco), her sister, Claudine Regalado (Miles City), her brother, Manuel Lopez (Billings), her niece, Nellie Oliver (Monahan, TX) and a very dear close friend Marti Klaboe (Kinsey).
Momma’s true passion was to become a nurse. She and our dad moved from Hysham, MT to Miles City, MT to make that happen. In 1978, she became a Registered Nurse and worked for the Holy Rosary Hospital for approximately 40 years. Her specialty was working in Labor and Delivery. To this day we bump into women telling us our momma delivered their babies and they tell us how wonderful, patient, and kind she was to them.
Momma enjoyed traveling, visiting with family far and near, she enjoyed cooking up a Mexican meal for the annual family and friend’s picnic. Most of all our momma loved spending time with her family.

Martha will be missed by all who knew her. I had the pleasure of working with her at St Vincent de Paul after she retired from nursing. She was my grandson’s nurse when he was born and although tiny in stature, she was a powerhouse ! A stool was needed to reach the isolette and we often joked about her not being much bigger than her patients! Her personality would make you smile and we enjoyed our time together ! Our hearts are broken due to the loss of such a treasure!

Oh my goodness…what a shock to see that “grandma Martha” is no longer with us. We first met her May of 1989. Our daughter spent 18 days in the hospital after being born. When we left grandma Martha gave us a huge check list for things to do ;). I remember her sad face as we got into the car and left. She had tears running down her face. We ran into her many times and she always had to give our girl some love. We will always remember her for her loving and caring ways. Rest In Peace Grandma Martha. You will be forever remembered.
Kay (Larson) Jacobs says

Now they can catch up in heaven. My deepest sympathy to all of your family from the Larson and Jacobs family. It’s never easy losing mom no matter how old you are. My prayers for healing for all.
